SEGA Dreamcast Was Released Ten Years Ago Today in Japan

My only main trouble with Neo games is exactly that. They're all straight-up arcade games! Beyond just going for 1cc (or score), there's very little to sink your teeth into. No added modes, no nothin'. The Neo ports in the DC era-onward had a chance to be a little more robust than the actual Neo Geo games.

Nevermind that a single game will cost more than the system you're playing the port on.

Naomi ports on the DC often had more "meat" than just the game proper. "Challenge Mode" or whatever on Crazy Taxi was a lot more fun than the game-proper.

About the only game i play on the DC anymore is SF3, and now that SF4 is out, not even that. I loved the DC arcade stick and it still sees use on my PC. Everything else has been ported lately from Ikaruga, Rez and power stone to better systems or has been properly sequeled out. There are exceptions like record of lodoss war, border down, project justice and such but the weird games have gone and been surpassed.

It took a damn long time to finally kill the DC in my house. Maybe it is time to sell the old girl.

Cost shouldn't be a factor when we are discussing these defunct systems/games.

As far as the Neo Geo games go, most of the good ones are still really good today. Of course, the fighters will always be great (as long as you have someone to fight againts) and the action titles are still fun. I can't say the same for most of the DC titles. Not to say that DC library is bad, it just feels dated.

But then again, I am a big NG homer.

Yup yup. Moved on as well. The 360 is everything I'd want out of a modern Dreamcast, though, so, Yahtzee. Takes everything that was good about it and builds on it.

The DC's carcass has been extensively looted, but there are still enough exceptions to keep the thing around. In addition to the ones you said, there's Jet Grind Radio, Under Defeat, Shenmue, Mars Matrix, Bangai-O. I'm fond of Red Dog and Sword of the Berserk, too, and Samba de Amigo doesn't count on anything but DC.

I'm not sure anybody likes those games enough anymore to hook the system back up more than once a year, though...

Bangai-O got a DS sequel that was well received. Mars Matrix is available on the psp with some creativity. Jet Grind Radio... well that's on the Xbox/360 depending if you liked the new one or not. Under Defeat, needs a port so hard, and shenmue is shenmue.

Spirits is a companion game at best. It's not really meant to replace the original. There's not even a real campaign mode or story, it's just for people that want to make their own Bangai-O levels.
