My Father Is Going To Be On Television
My father went to college to become an actor. He graduated with a major in acting, concentration in Shakespearean acting. He tried to make it work for a while, with travelling acting troupes, local productions, and even worked as a mime/clown for a while. Then he met my mom and my mom demanded money because she's a woman, so my dad starting working as a bellhop at a hotel.
Eventually he wound up working his way up through the chain of command in hotels to become a bigshot in catering, selling and managing parties. He's had an A&E special about it, has worked in the finest hotels in the nation, has thrown weddings and parties for the rich and famous, and was responsible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame party every year. He had to go back to school for a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management.
Despite all of this, his dream in life was still to be an actor. It has been about thirty years since he has graduated, and during a recent bout of voluntary unemployment, he decided to sign up with a talent agency or two to see if he couldn't get his acting career back in gear.
Well a few weeks ago he got called out to audition for a role on a show for ABC, his first audition in about 30 years, and he got the role.
It's not huge or anything, it's a reality-based show called "What Would You Do?" that will start to air on ABC soon. His bit is going to appear on January 6th, 10:00 P.M. on ABC. He is playing a pharmacist in a shop.
The role is he and other actors/actresses start a scene in the pharmacy, and then try to get the reactions of ordinary people, and get them involved, as far as I understand it. Scenarios like an elderly person getting denied coverage for their prescriptions, an underage girl trying to get birth control pills and being denied...stuff like that. It's been very exciting for him so I hope some of you will tune in. I'm very proud of him continuing to follow his dream, even after it has been buried for years.
