It's not about being anti-establishment. For me, it's about not buying into things I personally find worthless. If I can't afford something then why would I buy it? Aside from something like a house and car I don't buy things I can't pay for immediately. I also don't ever plan on retiring. I think we have a very skewed way of living that I don't really feel comfortable with. So I live on the margins and get by on my own terms that make me and my wife happy.
The problem with having this kind of argument on the internet is that you're immediately assuming I'm just naive and uneducated in how the real world works. I can assure you I'm not. I've taken stock of what I need to do to keep my family (and myself) happy and how I can accomplish this while still living the life I'd like to lead.
