Nintendo Reveals "Diverse Selection" in 1Q 2009 Lineup

Pok?mon fans in particular will have plenty to cheer about as Pok?mon Platinum is readied for its U.S. debut. Following the vast popularity of Pok?mon Diamond and Pok?mon Pearl, Pok?mon Platinum is the newest in the core series of Pok?mon games. Pok?mon Platinum features a new story full of adventure, never-before-seen forms of powerful Pok?mon – including the legendary Giratina's Origin Forme – and the Distortion World, a mysterious new world that suddenly appears in the Sinnoh region. In addition, with Pok?mon Platinum up to 20 players can interact with other Pok?mon fans from around the world in the new Wi-Fi Plaza, featuring mini-games and activities. Players can also enjoy the new features in the Global Terminal, such as posting battle videos using the new "Vs. Recorder." In addition, Pok?mon Platinum features a new Battle Frontier, where the toughest Trainers can test their skills in new ways. Pok?mon Platinum already has broken previous Nintendo DS sales records in Japan, selling more than 1 million copies in its first two days of release.

For the portable Nintendo DS, Personal Trainer: Math builds on the new Personal Trainer series, which launched with Personal Trainer: Cooking, now extends its reach beyond the stomach to the brain. Personal Trainer: Math introduces 40 fast-paced exercises to give players a fun way to improve their arithmetic skills. The Personal Trainer series is designed to help users enrich their lives and learn new skills in fun and interesting ways. Also for Nintendo DS, fans of the Fire Emblem franchise will enjoy the arrival of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, a revamped and re-imagined version of the NES classic, featuring touch-screen controls. Players with a broadband Internet connection can enjoy worldwide battles over Nintendo? Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's online gaming service.

Meanwhile, for the Wii console, Nintendo is offering up two classic Nintendo GameCube games: New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis and New Play Control! Pikmin enhanced for play using the Wii Remote controller. The enhanced New Play Control! Pikmin game lets players point the Wii Remote controller at the screen and use it as a cursor, making it easy to select either a single Pikmin or an entire army. When a player tosses Pikmin, they fly wherever the cursor is pointing. New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis lets players enjoy an afternoon on the court as their favorite characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, complete with motion-controlled serves and swings. With Wii controls, players can swing the Wii Remote controller to hit forehands and backhands and to apply spin. Experienced gamers can also attach a Nunchuk controller for additional precision. Both games are scheduled to launch next March.

Third-party publishers continue to bring diverse, creative games like FINAL FANTASY? CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: Echoes of Time from Square-Enix for Wii and Nintendo DS. These games offer unique features that allow users to play multiplayer across Nintendo platforms. MADWORLD from Sega will be available exclusively for Wii, and the highly acclaimed franchise Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars from Rockstar Games will be available for Nintendo DS.

Looks like lots of potential shit but MadWorld, Flower Sun and Rain, Tenchu, Moon all interest me. I'm a big fan of Pikmin but I'll wait and see how improved it is if at all.

I was thinking of bumping the Grasshopper Manufacture thread but I'll ask here - has anyone played the English version of Flower, Sun, and Rain? It's out in Europe. And is it any good?

Anyone have total software sales numbers by console for a month, year, etc.? I suspect the Wii has about a 2:1 attach rate, while the others are 6-8:1 at least. So Nintendo's "success" is a paper tiger.

Next gen is going to see a renewal of interest in the RTS when both Sony and Microsoft have their motion sensor controllers and you can use it to help control mass quantities of soldiers at a time, like on the PC. I would love nothing more than to rape g0zen and Firstblood on some Red Alert 3 over XBL.

Pikmin 3 sounds good. Will check out.

The Wii makes them $7, MS is about even and the PS3 is still at a loss. So even though they're selling Wii('s) it's not like they're making bank like they should off of overpriced last gen tech. What's wrong with Viewtiful Joe? I didn't get too far but it was good for the 2 levels I played.

I like Okami, yah it is overly long and easy but for a Zelda clone, it is competent.

Because after two levels, it wears thin. At least that's my rationale.

I just don't go apeshit over MW because in every video I have seen, I have yet to see enemies that DO ANYTHING. I see stylied 'fatalities' and nothing more. And it isn't like Dead Rsing's excuse of sheer number of enemies--so far there are one or two braindead AIs per area. I would really need to see an actual gameplay video and not just an in-game trailer.

Not getting excited over Madworld since there's few gameplay impressions out there, plus commentary in games drives me nuts.

Xseed's Wii titles look solid enough and I'm up for Trackmania DS, it's gotten some decent reviews and I tend to enjoy editor-style games on the system.

My 60 year dad of all people is getting one this christmas from his wife. I was looking for a game that he might like for a xmas present. Not owning one, or really even caring about it, I had not looked at the Wii software library.

I am in sheer awe of the shovelware and crap that is out for this system. It has to be at least a 15 to 1 shit game to decent game ratio. Its not just crappy games, its stuff I havent seen since the "Chase the Chuck Wagon" days of the 2600.

How the fuck does this console sell 2 million units in a month?!?!

My 60 year dad of all people is getting one this christmas from his wife. I was looking for a game that he might like for a xmas present. Not owning one, or really even caring about it, I had not looked at the Wii software library.

I am in sheer awe of the shovelware and crap that is out for this system. It has to be at least a 15 to 1 shit game to decent game ratio. Its not just crappy games, its stuff I havent seen since the "Chase the Chuck Wagon" days of the 2600.

How the fuck does this console sell 2 million units in a month?!?!

There's a sewer stream of shit out in the past year. Most of it is extremely casual non-games, or stuff that barely qualifies as games.

They're appealing to the lowest common denominator of non-gamers.

Also keep in mind that the Wii has a huge quantity of new games that cost $20-30.

PS3 and 360 are too expensive for cash-strapped recession soccer moms and are for Rich yuppies that have cocaine parties off of model's asses.

Last year had Metroid and Mario. This was Animal Crossing and...Animal Crossing. Not to mention that lineup looks terrible.

It really does look like no one gives a damn, even Nintendo, about making games for the Wii anymore. Which is a shame because stuff like Prime had my interest and now...?
