Metal is a tough genre because everyone is trying to be more metal than the other guy and it's filled with elitist pricks. It's not the hipsters. Black Metal Gohron of yesteryear can attest to this.

That's actually a good thing. Exposure is how you spread the word about your band to new ears. Nobody makes music hoping no one will listen or enjoy it.

Hah, you'd be surprised. A lot of these "underground" Black Metal bands would make releases of like 100 copies and refuse to release to anybody else because it was all tr00 and shit.

That's basically a form of elitism while fronting and pretending to care about your integrity.

I think people were trying to relive the old days when all the bands only had 100 releases because that's all they could afford.

When I was more into that type of stuff I had a band and I wanted to make the blackest Black Metal there was, but I wanted as many people as possible to listen to it of course.

Hrm I can give you that, but it's still a misplaced sentiment.

I agree, but I can still see how people would want things to still be that way. I mean, you won't hear any Darkthrone on the radio, but you'll hear stuff pretty close to it. The early 90's were the exciting days when all these bands were running wild and burning down churches, killing people and recording music in between and battling their way into some sort of public recognition. It was when all the bands were unknown, mysterious and "evil" and were almost mythical figures.

Then everyone grew up or went to jail and when they got out they weren't teenagers anymore and cared more about selling records. That's pretty much the timeline of Black Metal.
