You answered your own question.
Metal has never been rock music nor does it wish to be associated with it.
Metal has always been a form of rebellion against rock music and everything associated with it (getting wasted, partying, fucking mad bitches, etc.).
The same thing can be said of punk.
And both genres died when they ironically became flooded with the rockers and hipsters whom the originators of the style were reacting against.
Fuck genre.
Damn, I got called out! Yeah, I guess it's obvious I'm not a true metal fan since I didn't know real metal bands don't like sex with women or having fun.
So, if you're a real metal fan and you honestly dig the music of a real metal band and then you find out the guitar player got drunk and had sex with a lady after the show, do you have to stop liking the music on penalty of becoming a hipster douchebag?
What if you didn't find out about the drinking and sex? Is ignorance of the hipster activity enough to save you from being a hipster yourself...Or might you be a hipster and not even know it? Can I trust my own family to be hipster-free? Can I trust myself?
What the Hell are you talking about?!? Punk was a rebellion against Arena rock, disco, and political conservatism. It was a throwback to the roots of rock -- Chuck berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly, it stripped off the polish, the lights, the stage, the crowd and boiled it down to the alcohol -- the beat the drugs, the women, THE ENERGY!
If anything punk fucking celebrates rock.

Rock Band was made to rebel against Madden and 7.1 surround sound but now it's becoming that very thing. A sure sign of a society in decay.
