Hey guys, I'm in the midst of building a micro PC primarily dedicated to emulation, and I want the entire machine to be controlled by a USB game pad. This got me thinking, what are some good (preferably 2d) games for pc that would work well with a game pad? I know there's some gold out there but not much comes to mind aside from some shooters and Cave Story.
Not a shooter, platformer or 2D but Trackmania United Forever plays great with an analog pad. It is very arcade-y so I figure you might be interested.
I can only think of older stuff.
Another World, Flashback, Sonic PC, maybe Abuse.
The Oddworld games are pretty good, too.
Guilty Gear X2#Reload is a terrific port of the arcade game, as far as I can tell, and there are plenty of other fighting game ports of varying quality.
Mugen fighters are entertaining for a bit.
There are a ton of doujin shooters worth checking out.
Most sports games work well with a pad.
A lot of Apogee's catalog is perfect. Commander Keen, Duke Nukem and it's sequel, Alien Carnage, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, etc.
Also, if you can find the PC version of Rayman with all of the trimmings, that's fun, too!

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is sweet if you don't already have it on console. I'm waiting for the PC version of Braid which might come out next month.
For 3d games, TrackMania United Forever has been mentioned and it is amazing. Even the free TrackManias have a lot of content. The recent Tomb Raider games are good, too. If you haven't played Psychonauts on another system, I would get that as it's one of the better 3d platformers.
That looks like it could be fun if it the level design was just a bit better. Is that a slow playing level or something? I'm not expecting a racer but something with a level with better pacing and challenging jumps could be fun.Quote:

Side note: I had no trouble getting Spelunky! to recongize my PS2 controller with a Radio Shack USB adapter.

It's a lot harder and subtler than it looks. It's more of a precision platformer than a racing game. It's all about weight shifting to control your jump trajectories and such. That level in practice ends up feeling very fast paced because it's a lot of very difficult jumps in rapid succession.Quote:

Trials is also a remake of a much older game whose name escapes me (that I played the living shit out of).
The later levels in Trials (which is what that video's from) are really more about taking it slow and being technical with the bike than the early levels, which are more fast-paced and just kind of one jump after another.
It's a great game, though.
Quickly became one of my favorites even before I could finish the tutorial.
