No.

Ic has time and time again made jokes about wanting other people to start violent unrest. And he makes comments about not liking the country and wanting to leave. Other than cooking with free range food, he doesn't do a lot to actually make things better (or at least he doesn't talk about it). And he doesn't even get involved in violent protests that he claims that he wishes others would partake of.

Asking other people to get hurt or hurt others while you sit on your ass and wait to leave is cowardly IMO. He may just be trolling, but you know, this is what he posts for me to read.

He's admitted to having a deep seeded schadenfreude complex, too. So that kind of explains things.

My apologies for not having been clear enough, as I thought I'd indicated it wasn't in my post. Also, my reply was a little unfair. Anyway, aren't we friends on Facebook? You should have seen the call for my get-together. It was a Google hangout, like 35-40 people, couple of weeks ago. I think that's a good enough group to at least discuss this stuff, but considering it seems you're a lot more "outside" the pack I would have loved to have gotten your input. The mental profile portion was probably the most heatedly debated part and the one we sort of left as vague as we did for the reasons you stated. I, for sure, thought the "national registry" part would be the point of contention but we got past it pretty easily. And you're absolutely right about those examples - which is the whole point of the last part: mental health. If we looked at it from a better perspective then maybe it *is* possible that Loughner and the Batman shooter could have been avoided. It's the real issue, not the guns themselves.

Newtown is a special instance for me - not just because I live in CT. If there was better awareness then maybe Lanza's father's calls for help in dealing with the mother could have been heeded, or in talking to her it may have been determined the kid was a handful, or if more people in Newtown understood about mental illness (I've talked to some, they know now, of course) perhaps someone would have noticed. The behaviors each of them exhibited, passed off via, "I just thought he..." are red flags - but maybe my awareness of that is different because I have a severely disturbed family member.

I absolutely do not want laws banning guns on our books. There has to be some give, though. My buddy in SD was the one who suggested the mental health checks, and he's called me some bad things in anger during other arguments - but he understands the need for some give because, as a responsible adult, he gets that we're talking about deadly weapons and he knows that I don't want to ban firearms.
