but I postulate that it is possible for someone to both know what they are getting into AND for support systems and counter measures to be used.

I realize it is popular to argue that people should always sleep in the beds they make, etc, but you know, it doesn't have to be that way.
We could like, be compassionate and forgiving.
I personally know people who have because they had been laid off and were unable to find jobs, so the best choice was either being homeless or joining the military. I think the best alternate prospect one of them had was Home Depot, but they weren't giving him enough hours to pay his bills so it was just a slow burn towards losing his place.
So as long as you aren't being sarcastic you're correct.
It'd be lovely if we could ignore ISIS and let the middle east sort itself out but ISIS is rabid. Going to the mid-east has always been a terrible idea, but just this once I'm not sure what the reasonable alternative would be.
