I think it's more like the optimistic people on one side of the issue yearn for a time to come when people actually consider their actions and use appropriate safeguards.
Then the realistic people on the other side are like, yeah, while you are all wishing for something to happen that never will, here's a thing we can do that isn't fun or pretty but leads to a better outcome on the grand scale.
SSJN is the voice of reason on tnl? What a strange future we live in.
Dont go in the win 7 thread or your head will explode.
That is certainly one way to frame it.
Another way would be to state that a lot of the anti abortion crowd are against babies being punished with a death sentence just because moms was too careless in utilizing any number of the many forms of birth control available.
I would also argue that very few of the forced birth crowd sees unintended pregnancy as a moral failing worthy of punishment, yet they can be vocal. But that's like saying all Christians hate gay people and picket soldier's funerals, just because Westboro does.
Of course we can take either side to the extremes and argue nonsense all day long. I can match your rape/incest babies with anecdotal women I know personally who were not raped or victims of incest and have had multiple abortions because they're not responsible enough to use or force their man to use protection. I would never take the option of abortion away, I do believe it serves the greater good. But I don't think it should be colored as anything other than it is (snuffing out a life) in order to make it more palatable. It should be a hard choice, hard enough that people who are in the position to make it not even have to be a choice, actually do so.
I don't see the anti-abortion people handing out condoms. *I wonder why they don't seem to connect birth control to reduced abortions*.
Or is this actually about controlling women?
I don't give a fuck about the 'reason' for the abortion, not wanting a baby growing one's body (at any time, for any reason) is 100% sufficient. If birth control fails and that's the next step, cool, go for it.
I would agree if there was any evidence that they supported those forms of birth control. As we saw this summer (Hobby Lobby etc) they really don't. We also see them pushing abstinence-only sex ed in spite of the evidence that they don't work. The anti abortion crowd is also anti birth control and anti fact-based sex ed.
And one reason why those mothers are careless is because there is so much misinformation and lies spread about those birth control methods, lies and misinformation the anti abortion crowd is happy to spread.
I like how you ask for evidence and then spout a bunch of anecdotal-at-best bullshit in the same post.
I have a lil Halloween decoration on my counter with free candy in it. Come November, I'll fill it with condoms. Bam. There's your support.
Maybe it's because I listen to college radio and not Fox News, but I hear far more pro birth control and where to get it ads than I do "Don't be fucking, you'll go to hell" ads.
What lies are spread? That condoms aren't 100%? That the shot can make you bleed daily? That pills don't always work? That's all I've ever heard, and they are all true. But I also hear that some form of protection is better than none, so be smart and play the odds in your favor.
