Exactly, there's some insane environmental conditions that have to be figured in. They've been trying shit that works in a pool, not 5000+ feet under water. The problem might as well be on the moon, it's just a little easier for people to reach.

Russia had an accident at these depths (which is where the nuke theory came from). But their shit was dug on land so the fill was simpler. BP wasn't allowed to drill on land because of the protesting of it in the ANWR so offshore drilling was really the only place they could go.
There is also apparently radial particles getting out. It's not just oil coming from the gusher. But nickel, vanadium, trace amounts of arsenic, and other toxic by products gushing out too. That's why when you see the gusher on CNN it's not always black. It's brown / green. This stuff can filter in to the air and cause respiratory and birth defects. People near the coast on these boards should be careful.
Did they not get down there to securely drill the hole? Has it been a crude, free flowing gusher all this time? Why the fuck can they not get back, again?
I think that's fair. All I was saying was that if this happened on land the incident would have been easier to manage. The deep sea well is the reason for concern and major technical issues. (and the theoretic proximity to the underwater deep-earth pocket, basically they're worried if they drill further or set off explosions an entire basin of chemicals and magma will be released and fuck the entire gulf up in one fell swoop). People on CNN were mad they were drilling at such depths (and that it was a FOREIGN DEVIL doing it!) but neither of those are proper issues of merit IMO.
Cheeks is acting like the government isn't already trying to work with BP and solve this issue. Yeah... there are hundreds of people working to solve this issue right now. You can rest assured you won't hear even 1/10th of what's going on or why. Public unrest is a lot better than inciting a public panic.
It's a little late for the government to do much about it other than focus on how to plug the hole. I certainly hope this doesn't cause offshore drilling to be banned, and North America get used to paying 6 dollars a gallon. Or worse, a carbon tax. Never let a good disaster go to waste!
I agree government regulation is not the bad egg some make it out to be. There is a balance. Government inspections on institutions that are big enough to kill the economy / environment if they fuck up fit the bill. But in order for them to make sense they have to be A) Transparent B) Science driven, fact based and C) Limited in Power
Also apparently Goldman Sach's sold the majority of the BP stock they held 2 weeks before this happened. Lucky fuckers.
inside job imo
I don't think it was at all planned.
Do I really have to tell you that was a joke?
