Seriously? Doctors would actually finally get paid for work they do, instead of losing it on 'deadbeat' patients who can't pay and receive treatment anyway. Have you ever been to an ER anywhere in the fucking country and seen what is happening?
Those countries are nowhere near as large as ours, nor do they have an illegal immigration problem of our scope.
Suppose that the government goes piss broke (unthinkable, I know) and cannot afford to pay doctors an appropriate wage. The only option, then, would be to reduce the wage. Would the doctor have the option to say "fuck this" and abandon the national system for private practice? If so, no problem. But when it's Big Brother's way or no way, you are unquestionably in the realm of slavery.

However, I will refute your argument. Doctors will still be paid, much like oh, anyone who performs a service is. In fact, they would no longer be stiffed with the unpaid bills of patients which are currently the sole responsibility of the practices. These doctors are currently receiving no compensation whatsoever for their services rendered from people who cannot pay them. Although, they are forced to recoup some of these losses by raising the prices for those who can.
You're operating under the assumption that, (a) the government has enough money to pay these doctors, and (b) the government will always have the money to continue paying these doctors. I'm never going to argue that the system isn't broke--it's fucking terrible. But a government controlled, government mandated program at the federal level is unsustainable. We can't pay for the shit we already have. You're also putting the entire health care industry in the firm control of the same dipshits that brought us Cash for Clunkers. What could possibly go wrong?
Of course, this says nothing of the fact that the federal government has no power to mandate health care. Such a power would be relegated to states, or the people therein. I seem to recall reading that somewhere before...
