That is probably why.
The Patriot Act and the NSA. The NSA was the biggest increase in government in history. People are acting like Bush is some right-wing aficionado. And maybe he does define the new right wing - which is actually more centralized than people realize. He cut taxes, increased spending, and expanded government. That is not an actual conservative. But I suppose times change, and "real" conservatives are called libertarians to differentiate themselves from this nouveau colour red that has taken over.
I don't think you have to be a "true" Republican in order to take the Patriot Act down. I heard Kucinich talking shit about it and he's a Dem. You just have to have your head on straight and not neutered by bribes.
True conservatives don't have a horse in the race. The sooner they realize that and get better representation, the better.
I would say American's in general don't have a horse in the race that represents them. Lets not act like the Democrats are invincible to money, either. This is a symptom of out of control corruption and lobbying on both sides of the aisle. It won't get better until that issue is fixed.
I just have to ask. How is the Patriot Act socialist? Please let buttplant26 respond. No cheating.
Maybe "socialist" was the wrong word. I don't think it is really fair to call me out for using it when I used it in the same context that current republicans use it, aka, to attack anything that encourages big government.
Which the patriot act is a clear case of. You can't complain that health care is wrong for increasing the government's power and then not say a thing about the Patriot Act. With one the government is increasing its power in regards to some of your money and your health. In the other it is increasing its power in regards to your privacy.
You can't be against Big Government and support the Patriot Act.
I don't think anyone equates socialism to big government. They are often correlated, but they are definitely not the same thing. The Patriot Act is more a kin to the draft than it is Obamacare. It's an infringement on one's personal freedoms in the name of national security. It's not a redistribution of wealth, which is what Obamacare is and what socialism is by definition.
I'm still curious of how you assess the scenario I posited Yoshi.
The psychosis one? Frankly, I'll take my chances. That's all insurance is anyway. It's a statistical model designed to return a profit. So by the same logic, I would put my chips on you either maintaining coverage, having more mild symptoms during a lack of medication, or fucking up somewhere else and being locked up.
Although, arguably, real psychological issues (and I feel strongly that they are over-diagnosed more and more every year), as yours seem to be from your description, could theoretically fit my definition of handicapped, which I have no problem subsidizing: Under 18, handicapped, and over 65. Fuck the rest.
As much as I like you as a person, we will never see eye-to-eye on this issue.
