I kind of doubt this, given the era they lived in. I'd bet that freedom of religion was most assuredly freedom to choose your flavour of Christianity for most all of them.

What exactly is this God and Religion of our founders we need to turn back to?

Have any of these assholes actually studied any history at all? How about we give them all a copy of the Jefferson Bible.

I'm pretty sure the American evangelist population see an atheist as an enemy of their ideals. The likelihood of them voting or making decisions the way they want them to be made is diminished. It's all bullshit.

Jefferson was still a deist. He still believed in God.

Though yeah, his ideas would probably offend your run of the mill evangelical.

Well yeah, they were pretty much all still deists, but they sure as hell didn't believe in these Fundamentalist's version of a god.
