Remember when Jenna had that nip slip at the inaugural ball? I think that was the highlight of the Bush Presidency.
The highlight of the Bush presidency was the Bushisms. Political nerds will spend the next 50 years quoting the man at parties.
LOL Clinton got boned!

Did Clinton meet with look-alike?
No one here, however, is ready to go as far as Japanese writer Toshimitsu Shigemura, who has written two books and numerous articles claiming that Kim has been seriously ill for the past decade and may even have died.
Mr. Shigemura says that if the real Kim, looking wan and weak, appeared before the Supreme People's Assembly several days after North Korea fired a long-range missile on April 5, then it must have been a look-alike who hosted former US President Bill Clinton in August.
"They were totally different people," says Mr. Shigemura, a former correspondent for Mainichi Shimbun, a major Japanese newspaper, who now teaches international relations at Waseda University in Tokyo. "In August, he looked very healthy."
Shigemura suspects that a skilled actor delivered the lines to Mr. Clinton during their three-hour, 17-minute meeting, which ended with Mr. Clinton flying back to the US with two journalists who had been held for 140 days.
Shigemura is equally convinced that an actor played Kim in recent meetings with China's prime minister, Wen Jiabao, and the head of Hyundai Asan, the South Korean company responsible for developing special economic and tourist complexes in North Korea.
After the June 2000 summit, says Shigemura, Kim "was bedridden with diabetes" and "cannot walk by himself." He cites the names of three Japanese who claim to have met his look-alikes, including one who was told flatly, "I am a double."
One of them, a magician named Princess Tenko, Shigemura describes as a "close friend" of Kim, saw him more than once in visits to Pyongyang.

Election Results Show a Mixed Night for the Christian Right
November 04, 2009 10:32 AM ET
By Dan Gilgoff, God & Country
Yes, socially conservative Republican candidates prevailed last night in the big races—the gubernatorial contests in Virginia and New Jersey—but it was the special election for New York's 23rd Congressional District that had become a national symbol for the battle between religious conservatives and the GOP establishment. In recent days, it was the race that the big Christian right groups like the Family Research Council and Susan B. Anthony List and the movement's favored politician, Sarah Palin, had become most outspoken about.
But after forcing the socially liberal Republican out of the race, the right's candidate, Doug Hoffman of the Conservative Party, lost yesterday to Democrat Bill Owens. It's the first time a Democrat has won the district's seat in more than 100 years. After having made the race a national emblem, the right—including the Christian right—have to face the national implications of its loss there. Even in a ruby red district, the aggressively conservative Hoffman brand failed.
In Virginia and New Jersey, by contrast, the winning Republican candidates made a point of downplaying their social conservatism. As Spiritual Politics' Mark Silk notes, the new recipe for GOP success appears to be "a return to the Gingrich days of the 1980s and early 1990s, with Reaganesque candidates like Virginia's Bob McDonnell hiding their social conservatism under a bushel as social conservatives mobilize quietly behind the scenes." McDonnell and New Jersey's next governor, Chris Christie, campaigned as moderates.
In light of Hoffman's loss, the Christian right's biggest victory came in Maine, where voters rejected a newly adopted same-sex marriage law. In Washington State, meanwhile, voters approved a so-called "everything but marriage law" that expands rights for gay couples. The split decision mirrors what national polls tell us about where Americans are on gay couples: yes to civil unions, no to gay marriage.
moar from furry fox
That's true, McDonnell's Reagan-era master's thesis that suggests that working women, gays, fornicators and cohabitators are the source of the country's problems surfaced in August and he distanced himself from it. Saying it was an intellectual exercise, and that he was young when he wrote it (35).
That election is impressive. McDonnell (a very conservative republican haircut) managed to make moderate Deeds look like a left-wing looney, while making himself look pragmatic. I think Deeds lost because he slouches, and that shit doesn't fly in Virginia.
Also, apparently Barack Obama was booed at an ODU football game.
Working women really are the source of a lot of the country's problems.
Just ask Melanie Griffith.
Looks like health care reform is going to pass
give me some money, I don't want to work anymore!
More like: give me some health care! My job won't provide it to part time employees which is everyone since we work a 39.9 hour work week!
I work 38.75 and I have it
people should buy their own or get better jobs
If I want a job that pays more money, I find another job...now my insurance is going to get worse
Seriously even if you have it you should understand wtf is going on with insurance. And clearly, Joust does not.
I'm still waiting for Cow to show me 'how it is'
So it passed in the House...shittier coverage here we come ;(
I'll tell you what is going on with it. My dad is a doctor. He got cancer. The same week he went in to get it removed, his insurance tried to kick him off.
A doctor.
With cancer.
AND, he went a while without getting surgery because of having to have the stars align with the insurance to pay for it. Had he waited any longer because of them, he'd be dead.
Anyone that thinks that insurance in the US is A ok, is a stupid fuck head.
The end. Its a fucking litmus test for stupidity and/or selfishness.
Obama.
That's a wonderful story. You do realize your chances of getting cancer removed in any other country is lower than that of the US, right? We have the highest cancer survival rate % while having some of the most morbidly sick people in the world.
This bill fixes nothing. No one's arguing that the current system is good.
Actually, that depends on the type of cancer.
http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/200...ary-by-country
Yep, the US leads in more categories than any other country (hmm, which is more common--breast and prostate or ass cancer), despite living lives of excess (this is the real problem). If the bill doesn't fix the latter (and it doesn't), then who cares? It's trash.
Add this to the fact that people come here for treatment and not vice versa--well...
How exactly do you legislate fixing living lives of excess?
The government has no business doing either (if it isn't affecting other people)...which is the point
I shouldn't have to subsidize some other douchebag's shit...why should I have to pay for some smoker's lung cancer treatment? Bullshit to that
If the government is going to make me pay for that, then they better ban the stuff that gets these people there in the first place
Fuck I can't wait for you all to die because you can't get health care, so we can move in and take over.
Canada couldn't even take over Whoopi Goldberg's space on Hollywood Squares if they were the only ones playing
Sadly, Joust doesn't get it. The House bill and the Senate bill has to be merged before the Senate can hand it off to the President. So, somethings may make it into the final bill (minimal TORT reform, a tax increase of 40% on anyone who has Cadillac HC) and somethings can be nixed (jail time for the public if you refuse the Gov't option).
The way the elections went and the new Controversy in the 23rd District in NY(They may have to recount in NY). It may not pass the Senate in its current form.
Health Care reform is needed, but if you don't address certain issues in BOTH bills. Then its NOT Reform its Overhaul. They really are overhauling the HC system. Reform would be for the California version of Tort Reform, interstate HC plans, and prescription drug pricing overhaul.
Heck even lowing the minimum income allowance in Medicaid would have more of an effect on anyone who doesn't have HC, BUT wants it. If the House bill in any form passes the Senate. Josh will still have to wait for HC. And me as well. Part time workers will still not have it. We don't make enough.
In fact the House Finance Committee admits that really only 20% of Americans will qualify. Sure its 20% more, but its not what Obama wanted when he FIRST introduced this legislation. Not only that, but if you read the house bill there are more tax increases than HC legislation.
neat, you read an article!
I get the fact that it's not the final bill, but if the Dems force anything down just to get it to pass, we lose
Most young guys without insurance fall into that category.
im in that right now. Sure hope nothing bad happens
I'll stop the second you stop parading the conservative stereotype that every one's station in life is entirely their fault because they're too lazy to be as successful as you think they should be and therefore deserve no help or consideration.
I bet there are millions of poor people who work twice as hard as you and will only get half the wealth.
If equivalent work = equivalent success and/or opportunity then Kim Kardashian and other virtually worthless celebrity kids wouldn't make 1000x the work as a assembly line worker living in Mobile Alabama. The conservative assumption turns a blind eye to the fact that not every one is = or has = opportunities presented in life. Which is why it's double the horseshit of the "liberal view" on this issue.
Speaking of which, I doubt a guy like GW Bush would have made it anywhere near the oval office if it wasn't for his family influence and wealth.
that is a nice ass.
Shit, that ass is working overtime.
Thanks again for the reminder that my low income is from a lack of intelligence. Never mind that I have health problems that limit my earning ability. Besides that, I'm not particularly good at math either so that's an automatic fail anyway.
You're Canadian. Why focus on those minor things when it's clear what is really holding you back?
But, yes, math ineptitude is an auto-fail in my book.
Better health care and lower taxes could make up for that, at least until the Democrats fuck up both.
Fuck you John Galt. Not everyone is as brilliant as you and creatively gold bricks everyday. Most people really just want to chill with their social circle and do something that pays for it.
But there are lazy fucks out there, there are also brilliant and/or hard working people who are limited by conditions beyond their control. You cannot have a society that just provides for those making X amount and tell the rest to fuck off until they get a better job.
Of course there are hard working people that don't make a lot of money, and there are lazy people that are born into tons of money. The bottom line, however, is that if you set proper goals and work hard towards them you'll most likely do really well.
As long as your goals are in line with Republican Ideals.
fuck proper goals. I want to drive a tank to work. But I'm not going to get it no matter how hard I work. Fuck you Spo.
Not everyone want a 9 to 5, a big screen tv, a bitchy wife, 2.5 kids and a stupid cat.
Then stop shaking down the people with 9 to 5's for money.
thats not going to get me a tank either
From an ABC News report on President Obama's visit to China:
Freudian slip FTW.Quote:
The president was introduced by Hunstman, the U.S. ambassador to China and a former Mormon missionary to Taiwan. Huntsman smoothly addressed the students in English and Chinese.
Obama whispered briefly with Huntsman before he stepped to the podium.
"Nong Hao," the president said -- greeting the students with a local Shanghai slant term for "hello."
Yes, they are, because they would have zero seats in Congress or anywhere else without it. Their false promises of something for nothing keep the lazy and stupid voting for them. An educated, hard-working populace would be the end of their party. Who the fuck wants higher taxes when they actually have to be the ones to pay them instead of the ones being promised handouts for sitting on their asses having more kids?
Life isn't fair. Even if you have clear goals and work towards them ceaselessly you can get fucked hard either by your own (innocent) doing or by that of other parties (employees, retards, government, family). My point is wealth shouldn't be the sole determination on whether you live or die or get treated.
The second prong of this is we already try to provide the live or die part but in some places ignore everything up until its life or death, which means leaving an infection alone until it becomes life threatening for the uninsured, while the insured risk waiting on approval of an insurance company who does not have the client's best interest in mind once it becomes clear that the case is too expensive or their long term chances of continuing premiums produces a deficit vs. dropping them and only having to pay out capped damages (in tort reform states) if and only if they lose in court, which STILL could be cheaper than treating, and the damages paid to the former client may not be enough to cover the disease in the first place.
And gods help you if you have a chronic disease or disability requiring constant treatment or meds over a life time where the costs are not immediately/reliably reducible to a dollar amount in court. Courts want to get a dollar amount set, have the defendant pay it and get the matter out of court, while not holding the plaintiff hostage to the defendant's fortunes while giving the defendant a final dollar amount so they can move on as well.
Well this assumes a certain amount of luck (which encapsulates talent and ability, by the way, which are not bestowed upon people by virtue of desire or drive), as well as having good guidance early in life.
There's a limited window of possibility in life. When you're young you can get scholarships and loans and go to school, or take time off and live cheap while you work towards a goal that requires a lot of time investment, but if you're working 50 hours a week at K-Mart to feed yourself and a kid at age 25, you're going to have a lot of trouble ever getting off that treadmill. The world's not fair like that. Some windows close and stay shut.
This is intellectually dishonest. You cannot possibly believe this. I mean you pay jack all of taxes if you're in the bottom half (currently AGI: 32k or less). People are not lazy because of taxes or benefits, they're lazy because they're lazy. There's lazy people with or without government and there will always be a freerider/slacker problem. Accept that people are flawed. But not everyone on benefits is lazy, and not everyone who has money is a hard working.
I mean I don't pretend to believe that all republicans are religiously crazy, tea baggers who hang on glenn beck/rush's every deranged fantasy of America.
This is exactly how I feel about the Republican Party which, face it, is kept in power predominantly by uneducated fucksticks who get their political views from their church and from Fox News. The Republican party has been getting votes on the abortion issue for 30 years and they're not even one step closer to overturning Roe v Wade or any other religious voting issue.
Wealthy fiscal conservatives may be ideologically behind the republicans but they're obviously getting their power from poor, uneducated people who would actually bear a greater proportion of the tax burden under Republicans.
This ignores the many many rich and highly educated democrats. This ignores the people from all stratas of socio economic and educational status that desire programs such as nationalized/universal healthcare. This ignores the other developed nations, full of rich and smart people too that have had similar programs that the right wingers resist with fiery passion for years now.
Your bitterness makes you sound like a right wing troll. It also blinds you to the millions of dipshit rednecks that vote R because the scary D's might keep abortion legal AND take their guns away! Don't ever act like either party is entirely staffed by phD's, lawyers, and aerospace engineers.
I wish these people would go to the other devleoped nations and stay there. They promised to move away in 2004, after all
I don't even see why those are bad.
Last time I checked, it murder was against the law.
Oh, what are you saying, they make killing easier? Well maybe we should ban miniskirts too because they make rape easier.
your mother is retarded
I didn't just read one article. I read the bills. I even posted them a few pages back. But that's not the point.
I'm caught in the "Let's not Overhaul the system. Let's reform the problems within it first." If you don't address HALF of the SHIT that's wrong. The overhauil won't do 2/3rds of what its intended too.
When I had to move back North from Carolina. I had no job and no money (well I had enough to get a place.). I went out every day lookling for a job and annoying the places I left my applications at. I found a place to move into and I found two jobs. Both of which I got through hardwork. Not Luck. LUCK is you avoiding an oncoming car while crossing th street. Luck is winning a signed Shane Victorino baseball from a supermarket contest. That's luck.
Finding a job using all means necessary. Either by using a friend reference, constantly asking for a manager, applying for the same job everyday ... and then getting an interview. That's not luck, that's hardwork.
Am I still struggling? Yes. Why? Cause the Dem Controlled City of Philadelphia deems it necessary to take 100 bucks(the actual tax is 25% of the persons income) out of my paycheck per week to pay for their oversized wallets.
ps: I read the last part of your post, Frog. PM me about the K-Mart guy. is that who I think it is? I didn't know he had a kid?
So did you stop working hard after those jobs and then lose them? and were you making enough to live easy as a middle class American
after what? I'm still working at them.
I make enough even with the taxes to live. So, yes. And I am looking for a management position within the company.
You do know the story as to why I had to move back North. It had nothing to do with losing a job. Cause in fact I had one when I moved. It had to do with being evicted and not finding a place to stay.
No, it doesn't, because there aren't enough of the social elite to get these people elected in many if any precincts. I guess you still have the women and minorities fooled though.
So the "dipshit rednecks" disagree with you that it's worse to own a tool of killing than it is to kill? Damn, yeah, they're nuts.Quote:

People who don't pay taxes should not vote, because they have no skin in the game. Let's fix that and then see which party keeps control.
ITT: people confuse a few socalist practices with a communist nation ran by a mad dictator that killed and oppressed more of his own people than the previous government or foreign nations.
Is it just me or do Yoshi's posts have more fail than usual?
This is just as true for the pubs as the dems.
They only disagree because I think abortion should stay legal and we get to keep our guns. Both sides are full of shit. Dems haven't taken guns away and pubs haven't revoked abortion. Nice straw man however.
They have plenty of skin in the game. It's foolish to think otherwise.Quote:

This would ruin the country as the elite and what's left of the middle class would most likely only make decisions that helped them. This ignores that every one in the US (except maybe illegals) should have a say on how the country is run. The country would wreck regardless of party. This is because no one avoids all forms of taxation genius. Income tax, yeah maybe, gas tax, no. Cigarrette tax, no. Sales tax, fuck no. etc. etc. Even a fishing license is a tax in most cases.
No one pays 0 taxes. This is your bitterness over people with little wherewithal to pay getting out of some taxes or getting other social welfare programs. While hard working Yoshi has to pay taxes. Boohoo. Millions would gladly have your problems.
God they're almost as bad as my "I dont' give a shit what I'm typing posts".
Truly, Yoshi is the Lou Dobbs of TNL.
because everyone likes to pretend I'm an idiot, so it doesn't matter, I'm going to assert a topic that isn't very PC
We NEED to think about what stupid people are doing to this country. It isn't politically correct to say this, but we need to take stupid fucking people out of the equation. I know that saying that takes a big ole smelly shit on the lofty ideals of democracy that many people believe this nation is founded on, but something needs to be done. This country is being drove into the fucking ground by pandering to stupid people.
As it stands, the divide between smart and stupid people is increasing. And we've become so obsessed with using stupid people to gain power that we are actually making smart people stupid by the news we now put out.
I'm not sure if Yoshi's idea of making it where only tax payers get a say would help or not. It might be a step in the right direction. But there are still a hell of a lot of tax payers getting their news from assholes on Fox news.
I agree with parts of that. The problem would be there's no way to actually do it. The most realistic solution I can currently think of would be to try to educate the stupid people. Which in and of itself can be just as daunting a task.
The most realistic solution is mass murdering them. Population control plus a smarter voting bloc, right? I mean jeez, since we're already pretending that people can be deemed worthy and not-worthy based on a predetermined, narrow viewpoint of "worth"
Man...I think that's been done somewhere before though...hmm...
I call Godwin. Conversation done. Close thread.
We need to define the word stupid in the political sense.
In my opinion is that NOONE is stupid. Its more of a lack of common sense and current events. People on TNL are for the most part intelligent people and typically a friendly or half way decent debate can be had.
Its the general populace that we all agree can be lacking the intelligence gene.
Blame Fox News, CNN, Or MSNBC, but each news organization has become less about journalism and more about OP-Ed pieces. Fox and all other news outlets do this ...
- posts news piece.
- brings in a specialist or advisor
- asks questions to person
- person tells how it could effect nation.
- tv anchor/journalist starts making it personal.
Point is Ramon was right. Journalism is dead. He's also right you need to get your news not from one source, but from various sources and really reading between the lines is a lost art. Asking who will benefit the most, who created/started it, and what can the end result be. Is something most people should be doing.
Like the Healthcare debate. You all realize that no matter what bill passes ... the bill will not go into effect till 2014.
It gets my ire to no end when people act like there are people who are less than people for any reasoning. Be it based on race, gender, perceived intelligence, political affiliation, sexual orientation, yada yada.
Because every motherfucker who postulates that does so for two reasons: they want to feel superior to said group, or truly do see their hatred as focused on a sub-human group, and therefore justifiable. There's no social pragmatism behind it - if there is, it's a whole new level of cold. And if it was just practical, home-made eugenics they were talking about, they would or should take it to its end goal - population control through mass murder, sterilization of "undesirables" and an "education program" to get the quite-not-hopeless back on track.
Right...?
Oh, here's an idea! Why are we bothering with universal health care if there are so many "sheeple" devouring resources and doing nothing for the good of the whole? Shouldn't we allow them to languish, hopefully to die sooner than later? How about we administer a "human-quotient" test that determines if you're intelligent enough to deserve healthcare, right? Problem solved, riiiiiiiiiiight? </devil's advocate>
if there was an applaud smiley I'd use it now for Hero's post.
I'm not saying your wrong, Hero, but the guys with the high IQ are the ones who want to control the population. How high is your IQ?
"Why are we bothering with universal health care if there are so many "sheeple" devouring resources and doing nothing for the good of the whole"
that's a good question
What possessed me to stumble in and take a look at TNL's view of politics, I don't know, but this is retarded. I know that Yoshi is usually out of his mind but that's no excuse to shoot his good ideas down outright.
This wouldn't fix everything because I believe that how our elections are funded and therefore what we get out of candidates (affecting how millions of tax paying, yet utterly mindless people vote and what politicians can get away with in turn) is absolutely corrupt but, you fix that, and instate this, the middle class would get larger and stronger.
It's silly to think that any kind of "elite" group in the top 1% would have the numbers to have too much sway. The middle class would be the bulk of the vote, since a majority of people sub that don't and wouldn't bother, and they'd want to do things that would build up that middle class.
On the topic of government run healthcare, I support it but not in the way that most do. I would never say "universal" because that's just garbage. If an adult, who has the ability to, is not working a full time job, they simply shouldn't qualify. Period. Perhaps in times of economic downturn the rules would be augmented to work kind of how unemployment does, wherein as long as you're proving that you're seeking a job, you can have it for time. That I could see.
People who do what they're supposed to do and help this country move deserve to be taken care of. Layabouts don't. Some, like Yoshi, might look down on, say, the people working full time at the grocery store but if all of the people who would do that job vanished, he'd be fucked and so would the rest of us. They work, they do their part, they pay their taxes, they don't deserve to suffer for a lack of ambition or luck. This might be seen as a socialist idea but it's important to evaluate things on a case by case basis rather than attack with blanket ideals: This isn't about something like wage equalization, this is as basic as being able to get taken care of when you are sick.
I saw an example above about paying for someone's lung cancer treatments and I can see that; Someone who smoked for years made that choice. They should be on their own, just like you'd say about someone who decided to roll around in asbestos on a dare. It's that ridiculous and that true. And I say this as a smoker. I daily make the call to probably get cancer. High five, that's my own fucking problem.
I don't even know why I'm bothering because these threads usually boil down to one side wanting to hug everyone, while the other wants to fuck everyone. Only a few key people here are actually sane enough to evaluate ideas on their own merits and say something even remotely intelligent.
Are you talking about the idea that poor people shouldn't get health care or me saying that stupid people should not get to vote?
Because if it is the second, I'm not sure what to say. I mean, if you think it is ok that conservative politicians trick people into not believing in pollution, and then letting those people vote is ok, I don't know.
my bad
