Guitar Hero in Activision's hands has not been a nice thing so far. EA is pretty hands-off on what Harmonix is doing, and it seems to be going just fine.

That track list is awesome, but I haven't bought a new GH since 3...

EA has been fine lately. I always fear when any developer gets bought (not just from EA) but I can't complain about awesome new content like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space.

I'm definitely interested in both Guitar Hero: Metallica and The Beatles game. The songs alone should make the games good but I'm hoping that input from (surviving members of) the bands will help create something a bit more unique.

EA peaked when I was 15 or so with the original NHL Hockey. I only change when the facts convince me, and having only Dead Space and Crysis over the last decade isn't cutting it.

Who knows if we are going to keep seeing this side of EA when the gaming community demands new IPs from EA, yet when they get 2 amazing games from them, don' buy them. Granted I think Dead Space did ok, but i know neither did as well as they would have hoped.

Track lis for this game has my interest, but I'm more interested in drums right now and I know that 99.99% of the songs are gonna be a bitch on drums.

I'll wait to see if it even works how it should. Plugging in 2 pedals in the RB drums doesn't work so well. The faster you use both pedals, the fewer times it picks them up. If they can somehow get this to work with GH drums, I may have to pick it up.

I want to know if there will be a band kit for this or at least a guitar pack. I would rather not have to buy World Tour and then this disc.

NHL 09 is better than the old NHL hockey games. It is true, you just have to give it a fair shake, heck you can even play 09 with the old hockey control scheme.

I played the shit out of the first NHL game, then 93 and 94 with my roommates.

Yeah, I need to get '09, but I haven't gotten around to it.

The double pedal thing is actually supposed to work in this game.

That's why they're including the "expert +" difficulty for drums, which will make you play all the bass notes instead of halving them like all other rhythm games have done so far.

The inclusion of the music editor is what sells it for me.

That's the only thing that interested me in World Tour, and since this game has a much better set list, it makes the purchase a little more justified.

That and MERCYFUL FATE!

I thought it was unanimous that EA is pounding the crap out of Activision when it comes to quality. id jumped ship to EA for crying out loud. Activision cut all projects that they couldn't milk for annual sequels.

Activision was smart enough to merge with a good developer instead of swallowing and ruining many of them. EA can fuck themselves for Mercenaries 2 for example.

Ironic they finally add a double kick pedal for the one drummer in metal who sucks at double kicking.

This pack is very, underwhelming. Between the two games Rock Band really does have the far more interesting choices.

If there were more songs on this I might bite, but 49 total tracks is a ridiculously small number for a full price game, especially when less than a fourth of those songs are ones that I'd actually want to play more than once, and there's no DLC coming to the rescue.

If they're going to price these "expansions" the same as the core games, they need to start shipping with the same amount of content:

Guitar Hero II - 74 songs
Rock Band - 58 songs (but saved by a shit-ton of DLC)
Guitar Hero III - 73 songs
Rock Band 2 - 84 songs

Guitar Hero: '80s Encore - 30 songs
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith - 41 songs
Guitar Hero: Metallica - 49 songs

Get that weak shit out of here or lower the price IMO.

If not, I'm perfectly content to wait it out until the market sends it down to the proper price level like what happened a few months after the other two "expansions" came out.

RB 2's set list poops on GH from epic heights.

I was surprisingly not disgusted by the demo, but will likely wait for a price cut. I like that they toned down the cartoony colors and character models, gives it more of a RB vibe which is no coincidence I'm sure.

I thought it was funny how everything was so dark in the demo.

Were there any other colors used in this game besides black/gray? Aside from the notes themselves, I didn't notice any.

Galldam GH looks ugly nowadays. I can't believe how much Neversoft genericized this franchise.

I wouldn't say that Neversoft's done anything at all to make it worse; that's the problem, really.

Rock Band 1 and 2 have made a real effort to up the visuals and create a sleek interface while Guitar Hero has been sitting back making zero improvements since Guitar Hero II, and as a result, ends up looking shitty and dated by comparison.

Nah, the characters and the backgrounds in HMX's were all decently unique and distinct. Now even the preexisting GH characters have a distinct whiff of being made via create-a-character, and I can't even tell you anything about the background. Was there even one? I only remember darkness and some spotlights.

I'm not giving Metallica a dime of my money because of the douche bags they've become, so if I get this, it will be used. Take that Lars!

One of the best tracks on here, Mercyful Fate's "Evil," had to be re-recorded because they couldn't find the masters; the new version sounds like shit.

The same guy who did that video has a bunch of others up, if anyone's interested in checking out what the retail version looks like.

If you like Metallica, you'll like this game. I'm using the Rock Band 2 drums for it and the drumming just feels off somehow. I've never used the GH:WT drums so I don't know if it's because the game wasn't designed with RB drums in mind or what. In any case, the guitar parts are really fun to play. I like how the singing parts are done, a bit easier than RB to figure out where your pitch needs to be.

They finally came out with an "officially licensed" splitter for this game that's supposed to make double bass possible on Rock Band drum kits.

Problem is, it only works on the Rock Band 1 kits. Rock Band 2 drum kits are SOL.

Good to see that the "exclusive license" was put to proper use. :lol:
