Modding my Xbox is looking better and better. Especially for region-free DVD playback. :) Mame is just more icing on the cake. I just want to wait a little longer for 12 wire chips (or less) to come out. 24 wire to solder is 24 chances for me to wreck my Xbox.

emualates old arcade hardware that is only available as PCB, it rocks...the only reason i dont play it as often is that i hate playing games on my PC, and prefer the couch.

You probably would not need a modchip soon. Remember that MIT student that read and decrypted that boot block and also found a way to get the magic number. Both of which could be used to run original software on the X-Box. Even though the guy was a pussy for not developing it further, I am sure that someone will create a similar FPGA and get the rest of the results for the community.
Then you wouldn't need mod chips, just running a patch on a program and then burning it on a CD will do the trick. I say running a patch because this will probably be illegal since Microsoft licenses the decryption key and the magic number to official developers.
Using the decryption key and the ROM(no not the illegal kind, but just an X-Box program) loading mechanism you can run Mame without any hardware alterations.:)

and chibbi, most of the mod chips have macrovision disabled as well if your into that sort of thing. the only bad thing ive heard about all region playback is that you need a dvd remote/dongle for all the regions you want to play (ie use the us one when playing us movies, a jap one when playing jap movies and so on). i could be wrong but theres either a program or chip coming out that makes this all null and void btw. and the lesser wire messiah will prolly be out sometime in july.
