I'm on another original Xbox kick, so over the past week, I've been playing some Shenmue II, Otogi, Ninja Gaiden, and Burnout Revenge. With Shenmue II, I just wanted to enjoy the beginning of the game again, while Otogi and Ninja Gaiden have fulfilled my desires to be a virtual ninja, and I got a few more gold medals in Revenge - finally getting an Elite ranking after not playing the game for a couple of years, and also wanting to get back in the series in preparation for hopefully getting Paradise in the next month or so. I've also been enjoying alternating between Tetris DS and Drill Dozer on my DS.
Gotta love winter, probably played more in the past month than the last 8 months of '08 combined:
World of Goo (Wii)- It's like someone decided to craft gaming's Citzen Kane after a night of Jaggerbombs and Puyo Puyo. Buy Goo indeed!
DoeRaMi Fantasy (SNES)- Always wanted to try this. So far it's a simple platformer with some nice graphics, hopefully things get more interesting....
Alien Crush Returns (Wii)- Presentation-wise this is exactly what a Crush sequel should be, as far as the mechanics many boards seem too confined and have you bouncing indefinitely instead of using flippers. Still it's great to finally get a decent fantasy pinball game on a current console.
Elebits: Kai and Zero (DS) Seven "levels" to this game, only about half way through but it's remained fun and unique.
Cybercore (TG-16)- Played alot of Turbo shooters lately. Cybercore is a dog but still a acceptable Dragon Spirit clone.
Tricky Kick (TG-16)- Another Turbo game I've ignored because of better looking fare on the system. Decent game though brutal difficulty.
Fray: Xak Gaiden (PCE-SCD)- Very nice looking but dull. Seems related to the original Monsterworld or Golvellius, random villages mixed with forced scroll action segments.
SSF2T HDR: Been using that Chung Lee. What a cheap bitch!
FFIV DS: Plodding through on lunch/poo breaks.
Eternal Sonata: The combat is a lot of inane mashing. Gradually introducing the complexities of the battle system via Party Levels is pandering and boring. I want the good stuff now.
The bosses have been challenging, but the field battles are a joke. I'm a few hours in, have about 2300 HP, and enemies' attacks are hitting me for 0-25HP. Wow.
Right now I'm grinding through Dungeon Siege 1. Yes, I know that fucking game came out seven years ago. It's just that every time I started it up, my computer would fuck up and I'd lose the save (save folder is set in "My Documents" which blows). So finally I'm powering through it, even though I just bought The Witcher (a merely fair game so far, but I'm not that far into it) and Crysis, which is much better than I was expecting.
Dungeon Siege first, though.
I've been playing pretty much either Burnout Paradise (PC), which is thankfully starting to get some challenge to it, or some version/clone of Tetris the Grandmaster, where 20g has started to click with me in terms of building pyramids and not getting block dicks caught on things.
Anything else has been in small, usually multiplayer bursts. There's been pretty consistent offline VF5, too, now that I think about it.
Tetris the Grandmaster is starting to pretty clearly shape into the greatest puzzle game, in my eyes. I want to make a thread about it, but I dunno.
Currently playing:
Drill Dozer - About to finish the main story right now and am excited to play through the levels again with the better drill bit. I've never played the extra levels, either, so that should be a good deal of fun.
Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise - Picked this up for $20 at Target. I'm liking it so far, although I would be pissed if I still owned the first VP.
Tomb Raider: Underworld - I've slacked off on finishing this, but I do like the majority of this game. The DLC sounds like it should be fun to go through as well.
Burnout Paradise - Man, I suck at this. Trying to learn the city better so I can at least finish the race on Tuesday nights.
Uno - Thursday nights. Serious f'ing business.
Triggerheart Exelica - Trying to catch up with Finch's score.
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix - Trying to break in the Madcatz Fighter pad before SFIV comes out.
Later on this month I'm looking forward to adding the Ultimate Genesis Collection and Street Fighter 4 to this list as well as doing a second play through of Prince of Persia (360) along with that DLC.
PHoF:tWC for Wii
Ar Tonelico II - Too pervy for my tastes, but I like all the dialogue and battle system that plays like Valkyrie Profile.
Castle Crashers
Pinball FX
Won't have much time to play much this week because I'm scrambling for appointments while I still have insurance, and finding another part time job.
Wartech: Senko No Ronde: Picked it up used for $5 a while back and never touched it. After playing for about two hours, I find I wasn't missing much. The last stage is the best, imo, and there are only seven in total. Combat isn't as intense as it should be, and the story is just straight up LOL.
Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts: A fun little "platformer" that has plenty to find and open. I like improving the vehicles, but the constant "find this/do this for me before the time runs out" gameplay sucks sometimes.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith: Eh, it's Guitar Hero.... I got it at Radio Shack for $13 a few weeks ago, and since I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan, Rock Band has taken most of my time. The game is fun, but Red Octane is SERIOUSLY beating this franchise into the ground.
You've played the AI for two hours. Did you know this was a fighting/VO style game going in?Quote:
