NFG's Fantabulous Font Machine

Hallo!

Some of you might remember me from such rarely updated sites as gamesx.com and nfggames.com and nfgcontrols.com etc etc.

I've created a new thing:

A fantabulous, fantastic font machine! It'll allow you to create phrases in 60 (and counting) font styles, ripped from your favourite arcade games. Here's a sample of the fonts available so far:

This was my first adventure with PHP programming and I'm very pleased at the result. If you enjoy this ridiculous thing, rest assured I'll be posting the code online, so you can use it on your own sites or for other, more nefarious things.

(please note that I've disabled hotlinks to the images you create in order to preserve my poor server's composure. Hotlinks used on this forum, and several others, are still allowed)

This is awesome, but your per-font comments are just as great as the results.

Added four new fonts: Gaiapolis, Gradius 3, Gunbuster and Monster Mauler. They've been added to the sampler image in the first post.

Despair will get a kick out of this one.

TTFs to come...later? ^_^

Can't work out a way to convert bitmap colour fonts to TTF, so it's unlikely I'll ever bother. And doing it in monochrome with the colour fill to be added later is just weak sauce.

It keeps turning up in the strangest places. The publisher was really hard to work with, and they stopped talking to me as soon as they cut the final cheque, so I never know where it can be seen until people tell me. Even the Spanish translator had to contact me on Flickr (of all places) instead of through the publisher.

No Street Fighter fonts?

This is friggin sweet!

The SF fonts are basically the same as the ones from most Capcom CPS2 games. If you check out http://nfggames.com/system/arcade/ar...0Warriors/.png you'll see basically the same thing. I confess that I haven't delved too deeply into it, but unless there's anything unique in the pre-CPS2 stuff you can consider SF already done.

EDIT: Found some good stuff in SF2. Ripping now... Not sure yet if it's different from any other font, but the colours are nice.

As you'll see in the font notes for SSF2, it's basically the same as most later CPS2 fonts, but without the fancy anti-aliasing or gradients.

The font machine has had a few new updates, with four new fonts added (Klax (2 versions), Final Star Force, Wonder Boy and Aurail) and a handy MAME font ripping guide.

A couple of big upgrades to the script today. I worked out a method for listing every font in a row, as well as a counter for tallying up the current font total. And Twystneko put together a word-balloon mod for his shmups scene generator, and it's all available now:

New version of the fontmaker page is up!

I'm happy with this new page, it's much more user-friendly, with word-balloon controls, but no more colour mixer. (No one used it anyway). You can still get that on the old version.

As usual, many thanks to Twyst for helping me out with the tricky bits, and 99% of the javascript. And boy, wait till you see HIS new project.
