I bought the CE on Bestbuy.com 2 days before launch. I wish I bought 5 of them.
Also, it was 2 million shipped. Reading is tough.
This game is awesome but I just got really really upset with it. Playing on Veteran and doing a side mission involving Krogan. I know they're big warriors and all, but I figure they should fucking die after I shoot them in the face 30 times with a particle moving practically the speed of light. First time I've turned the game off in frustration but I'm sure I'll get it done tomorrow and finish the mission.
Krogan are tough motherfuckers. Lets just say they got balls man.
Four balls, to be precise.
They regenerate health abominably fast. Your best bet is to throw warp and fire attacks at them to prevent this. Also, be sure to use the right weapon for the job - most Krogan wear armour and some weapons don't cut through it very effectively.
Use fire bullets imo.
Incendiary rounds yo.
It's snowing like a MF'er here, as soon as I get home it's ME2 til I beat it.
So I'm really digging this game a lot. I think I may be nearing the end of the game, but I've still got many hours of side quests I want to complete before I finish off the main quest. I normally don't do side quests in games, but in ME2 the side quests feel like fully fleshed out story missions, so they're really enjoyable. I haven't upgraded my ship at all yet either, but I'm getting hints in the game that maybe I should. But I'm really not looking forward to probing planets for space rocks. I also have about 600,000 space bucks, and can't find anything to purchase. I wish I could buy space rocks with it. What's everyone using their money for?
Does anyone know if you can make raucous love with Kelly? I'm always flirting with her and I even asked her out to dinner, but they didn't show the dinner scene or say whether I railed her. I'd like to think she slipped me a roofie and had her way with me and that's why I can't remember anything. I think I want to romance Miranda, but I romanced Liara in the first game, I wonder if in the 3rd game both of those storylines will carry over.
The planet scanning does suck but it seems that Bioware has put in wayyyyy more minerals than you'll ever need (haven't finished yet so I don't know for sure). You only have to scan a fraction of the total planets to get everything.
I think you'll want to fully upgrade your ship by the end, judging from all those in-game warnings about a SUICIDE MISSION.
It ain't a suicide mission unless somebody dies!
my god the loading time in this game sucks. i don't even like travelling between floors of my ships because of it. perhaps i should install the game to the hd
It doesn't help.
Actually it might, but I've only played it installed, and I hate it too. but at least it's not hidden by an elevator anymore?
That's shitty to hear then. Lame.
Also, I just saved the colony. I was disappointed that there was no quick time choice to shoot Ashley in the head while she was walking away. What a slut bitch.
Load times are pretty quick on PC. The load times between ship levels is probably 2 seconds.
However, the game will completely crash if you move your hotkey icons, so...eh.
I'm starting to suspect this game has a lame story. The team member collection and subsequent loyalty missions, when viewed as a combined story arc, are disjointed and hollow. They just kind-of blend in with the side-missions, and for certain guys like Jacob and Zaeeda, they're even less fleshed out. The random planet missions are fine for what they are, but they're blocked behind the horrible scanning chore.
Even all the pick-ups strewn about levels are just perfunctory. You have to pick them up because many of your weapon upgrades are hidden among them, and since everything's on a straight line, it's not much extra effort. Still, I pretty much just run through the level and hit the 'take' key on anything targeted, which itself kills much of the incentive to explore the pretty environments.
I think I reached the point where my excitement over what the game could be is being tempered by the realization of its limits. But, now that all side stuff is out of the way, I'm about to tackle the next big story bit and hopeful that that's better conceived.
I think it happens if your skills are on cooldown. I can make it happen consistently, but it's not like you need to change them up much. Still, I can't believe that made it past QA.
Maybe it will play out that way. Regardless, I think the acquisition of team members could have been woven into the central storyline with some craft, or at least broken up between major plot points (which would also provide an opportunity to tailor the story to people's choices).Quote:
the "Empire" of the story
Also, while I find this much more satisfying an experience than Dragon Age, I miss having party members talk to each other...that was a neat touch. In ME2, they generally just make their remarks independently, but frame your other party member in a "thoughtful" way as if they're listening. I think there's specific dialogue for missions where a party member is required, but again, it's usually a comment about the situation and not directed at anyone (even the required party member).
Protip: BioShock 2 comes out in 2 weeks, and if you like ME, you like Bioshock. So if you're going to buy it, preorder it so you can get the preorder bonus and eBay it. It'll probably knock $15 off the purchase price.
"Reserve Bioshock 2 and receive a code to unlock Blanche the actress and Zigo the fisherman in multiplayer mode. Available online and in-store while supplies last."

Protip: Get the PC version and knock $25 off the purchase price
Just played this game for almost 8 hours. Fun as shit. Just got that Krogan supersoldier in my cargo bay. Such a fun game. I'm really liking the scientist salarian. His cryo and incendiary abilities run train everyone. Since I'm vanguard I don't have much use for Jacob so I doubt I'll ever use him. Garrus is pretty badass in this. I think it's the outlaw thing. Still too law enforcement for me though.
Chux: Where is the elevator in the Citadel with the Renegade flash? I wanted to explore the Presidium but it looks like they took the old area's out altogether (aside from being in the background). Gaaay.
I like things to run as smoothly as they can and not be dependent on my hardware specs, which is why I don't play PC games any more and haven't upgraded in a couple years. I also love the 360 controller. 360 version pls.
Just got the assassin. Assassin and Professor fo life. The black dude is worthless, because shotguns are worthless.
edit--Samara on board. Samara and Mordin now!
Just beat it,
this game is basically "Side Quests: The Game"
That Warp is the only biotic to affect shielded enemies is kinda lame. Especially since the biotics physics is one of the few creative combat things to play with.
If a squadmate doesn't have Overload, they're knocked significantly down the utility tree. But the whole shields/barier/tech thing is kinda moot anyway since a single sniper shot takes off a bar and a half. By the time someone's protective layers are stripped away so things like AI Hacking and Throw will work, they're pretty much dead from random squadmate fire anyhow so why bother.
this game is fucking awesome. except when its not. For example A little while ago I fucked up while trying to do the right thing for Tali. She refuses to speak to me any more. Fine, whatever. But when I go and recover a Geth soldier, and have ideas about reviving it, shouldn't the Quarian have something to say about that? I go to talk to her and she's busy. I actively took Tali on the Legion loyalty mission hoping for something, but nothin much. No ideas about using the virus to purge all Geth, not a thing other than some lame comment that got turned into Sheppard asking the Geth why Shep was making this decision.
Also, Just banged generic bang me chick in engineering, which seemed completely innappropriate considering the rest of the crew had just been kidnapped. And Engineering? Really? there's a bed in your office, and there's a bed in my quarters. Really?
That's why I'm playing through it as a Soldier, just as I did in ME1. Fuck that biotics nonsense, it's a sweet fps to me. I do wish I played it on hard though, it's a little easy this way.
I'm running a soldier right now but I added Smash thanks to the ability you get in upgrades for taking team mate abilities. I've got that shit mapped to the right bumper and it comes in very handy in some situations.
I don't know. Shockwave and Lift are extremely useful. I've killed a lot of enemies by them floating over a ledge and fall to their room. Also shockwave goes through objects. So it's a great way to break up enemies hunkering down. I'm pretty useless without someone on my team having the overload ability, though. Those mechs are pretty tough. DO NOT VANGUARD RUSH THEM. You will not like what happens.
That's why Vanguards suck. The abilities only work on defenseless enemies.
I pre-ordered this game on Amazon. It has apparently just shipped today. Fucking assholes.
Just finished this...
Tali died. I'm guessing it's cuz I didn't do her loyalty mission correctly. Big human Reaper was...a let down honestly, but otherwise the game was fantastic
Now to take a deep breathe and start again.
I just finished it on Veteran as a Paragon Infiltrator just like my ME1 save. Cloak has pulled my ass out of the fire a million times. Overall the game is fantastic. I wish there was a more central villain like Saren. Harbinger had no personality. Insane difficulty here we go.
Scanning planets makes me want to blow my brains out, and my fish keep dying as well.
You'd think a state of the art 22nd century starship would have an automatic feed dispenser, but nooooo. I just feed mine immediately after every "mission complete" screen and they haven't died yet.
Seriously, why do I have to push the button to feed them all the time... I went on a scanning binge for a while and when I finally stopped they were all dead.
fuck the fish
If you sweet talk your assistant chick enough she will offer to feed them while you are out on missions, I would assume that just means they won't starve anymore. It would be stupid if the game let them die while you were on the ship.
Wait—there's fish?
Dead fish.
Lots of them.
At least I don't have to feed my Space Hamster.
I played this for the entire. Weekend. And I still have 3 more dudes to recruit + a few loyalty missions. So, so good.
I just finished everybodies loyalty missions(Zaeed too) and went after a certain object. omg sentient geth
I have a feeling I'll get like all of the achievements aside from Insanity on the first playthrough.
My fish died and I fed them regularly. I was pissed.
I played the entire weekend and only got Garrus, Grunt and Mordin on my team. This game is a time sync. For scanning I dont' find it that bad. I mean, it sucks yeah. But go around to planets marked "rich". Don't waste your time on shitty moderates for too long. I'm up to like 40k resources in each category and I already have the med bay, scanner and gun upgrades. I plan on getting Tali and keeping her loyal. I used her throughout the entire first game and it turned out well so I feel I owe it to her! (her and Wrex!) I heard you can bang her in this, but Miranda is definitely the chick I'm going for. Tali's like a little sister or something. Weird.
The Game Salesman guy on the Citadel is pretty damned funny.
Hanar porn games imo.
I can't wait to turn around play on Insane and be 100% renegade. The problem this time around is that I feel like as a paragon I can kill a few people w/ Renegade QTE's and be fine. They need to make it a scale, I shouldn't be able to have near 100% both, you know?
It really is. I figured I'd try it out on some lame android thing. Then the sky exploded and I was down 2/3 of my heavy ammo. WORTH IT.
I also figured out going to computer consoles is a good way to find hidden things. In the Okeer mission one of the consoles gives you an upgrade, but you have to physically stand next to it so it pops up in order to find it. I hope I didn't miss some shit... I don't have that Cain... only a heat seeking rocket launcher I made.
cain is brutal. i loved it. i fired it off once in a room, i didn't know how powerful it was.
when i reloaded my game after dying I treated it with a bit more respect.
Just beat it. The final mission was so lame compared to ME1. I beat the final boss with only TWO shots from the Cain
I made Saren commit suicide in the first one, so I only fought zombie Saren. He wasn't that great. The first battle with him at the cloning facility was much better.

It's for the garbage Dr. Pepper DLC. I got all of them and used none.
I've got lots of visors for sale!!
damn, i already have all this content. I was hoping for more stuff but i got this on the accidental free DLC bonanza before it launched.
Btw., this has taken over my life. Where was this during the Christmas break?
I picked this up with birthday gift cards, really digging it so far. Though Citadel = Blue, Omega = Red is annoying as shit.
I was pretty excited to find out garrus was Archangel though, he's so much more badass in this game
I roll with him and Mordin most of the time. Mordin's the shit.
Mordin and~ Tali ~
! And that asshole DLC merc because he sounds pissed off all the time.
I don't like him. Though when I did roll with him and Mordin I probably had the easiest run of my entire game so far. Zaaed died once after getting ambushed by a mech, though.
I used Luscious Ass McGee and Praying Alien Sniper Dot Gov in most of my runs.
I can't stop playing this stupid game, I'm getting close to 30 hours played. Have one more person to find, 2 more loyalties to do.
There are some really beautiful areas, it feels much more diverse than the first game. It runs sooooo much better too. Thank god they threw the Mako into the trash where it belongs, I hated that awful thing.
I rolled with Crime (Thane) and Punishment (Garrus) a lot once I got them, but Mordin kicks all kinds of ass.
I do side missions as I get them and searching for minerals takes forever. Why can't I get EDI to scan planets for me? Everything else on the ship is high tech as all get out!
Also! Do you have to have 100% ammo for Cain to fire? That shit just makes noise when I try to use it.
yes, you get 1 shot per 100%
Samara is amazing once you get her loyalty skill (Reave). Before that she's pretty subpar though. I find that unless you have long-range covered yourself, having squadmates with AR's/snipers makes a big difference in the harder difficulties.
Playing Infiltrator is total god-mode btw. I'm playing a Sentinel on Insane now and the combat is much more challenging and interesting. I'm really going to appreciate the extra weapon skill when that shows up; being limited to handguns is pretty lame.
I'd feel better about the story in this game if I thought the results of your playthrough were going to have any real effect on ME3. ME1 had the same team-building element, but there was a lot more meat to the story, so it seems a cop-out to say it's okay for ME2 to skimp on content because it's just the middle chapter building up to the final title. It would be great if it works out that way, but logistically, considering how easy it is to lose your squadmates, it doesn't seem promising.
Miranda's the best just because of her squadwide +damage/+health bonuses though.
I fucking love Joker and EDI conversations.
Is Samaras Reave the best Advanced Skill to take? I barely use her so I'm not sure what it even does.
It's basically a better version of Warp. I used Barrier my first playthrough but yeah I think Reave is the best one.
Warp rules too. I always roll with someone who has Warp or Overload. Gotta keep those shields and barriers in check.
Fuck Samara. I totally used her witch daughter.
You have been warned:
I'm not sure why you dislike the story. I did find the central protagonist of Saren much more pleasing and engaging because it actually incorporated merry band of the universe in to the equation. But the overall story of the Reavers utilizing a neighbouring alien to pursue one of the only alien species to thwart them was pretty cool. Shows the Reavers are an intellectual species, not simply relying on overwhelming technology to infiltrate enemy lines.
I also think the central gameplay idea of some characters dying is a nice touch, too. In some ways maybe they should have written in more characters who are scripted to die instead of happenstance and relationships. But oh well. If Mordin dies on my way to the end game I will be sad. Garrus as well... he truly is amazing in this game compared to the first. Much more badass.
If I know I'm going to be fighting robots or mechs I'll take Miranda and Garrus. They both have overload and Garrus has concussive shot, which also wrecks enemy barriers and shields, too. I took Zaaed's fire grenade to do away with shielding (and I'm Vanguard, so I have incendiary ammo too) but he's the only guy I have loyalty with so I'm stuck with his ability, anyway. After Mass Effect is finished I wonder how they're going to continue the universe. A new character, obviously. Probably not human, I'm guessing. I'd love to do a story as Thane. I can also see an MMO coming out of this game pretty easily, too.
What's the easiest and quickest way to get Element Zero?
Why would you not just use the spoiler tags? What is this, GameFAQs?
Also: concussive shot works on biotic barriers but not armor or shields.
Stop caring about dumb shit like that and TNL should be fine.
I thought it affected shields. The only barriers I can recall coming up against are those of the Collectors (Krogan's too, maybe?) but I don't know. I went on that rogue AI mission and found Miranda and Garrus' team up the best for that. Though I didn't have Tali at the time. And Tali is probably the best against tech enemies anyway. I am in no rush to finish this game off. Just enjoying the ride.
Wait a minute, he's not spoiling ME2.
I think I fucked up Thane's loyalty mission. His son just killed his target and took off in a car. WTF!
I just finished my first playthrough, fucking fantastic game.
And the ending wasn't epic in the "everything is blowing up around you" but it was still so good.
I was genuinely pissed and worried when my crew got abducted, and I was worried over every little decision that one of my characters was going to die in the end. Well ok there were a few characters I didn't care about but still. I made it with everyone alive though so fuck yeah. I think all you have to do is every loyalty mission and get all the ship upgrades. I did a few at the last moment because I kept thinking back to the beginning, glad I did
I liked almost everything about the game, everything feeling more fleshed out and interesting, going to different cities that have shit instead of just the citadel. Though I'm disappointed I didn't really get much more out of the Aria storyline, maybe it's saved for ME3.
Regardless I'm ready for the third game. Shame it'll probably be another 2 (or 3?) years)
Also since my original character was a female I banged Garrus, it was hilarious
Nope, you can still fuck it up if you choose the wrong characters during the mission.
I just finished this too. I loved it. Only a few complaints:
The ME1 callbacks are largely pointless. Nothing you did had any meaningful impact on ME2.
The main story arc in ME2 is almost nonexistent. All sidequests, all the time. Thankfully, the sidequests are massively improved.
I put Legion in charge of the Duct, because I didn't have time to care about him (Though he seems kind of rad) with Garrus in charge of the other group since he was able to lead the other group. The part where a stray bullet came through the door and hit him I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" But then he just walked it off and shrugged at me.
Just finished the game, it rocked. I liked it much more than the first from start to finish. I'm wondering how much differently I would have played it not knowing about things to do to get through the Gate and such.
I'm psyched for 3 and may give this one another spin in a year or so.
WTF? Did everyone finish ME 2 today? I finished it today also. Everyone survived! I also got all the achievements besides Insanity and get a person to lvl 30.
I tried. But there are so many hours in the day. Plus, I'm now deathly afraid of killing all my teammates in a final mission I haven't even gotten to yet. That and I'm curious if I sleep with Kelly, will I then no longerbe able to sleep with Miranda.
Btw., I hated Liara in episode one and hate her even more so in episode two. How on earth could she become more annoying? I mean, I haven't seen her in two years and she sends me around dealing with her petty bullshit? Why was she even in the game? At least Ashley was... emotional.
I finished it yesterday, starting on a Paragon runthrough now. I started playing it on insanity, but turned it down by Omega... it just isn't any fun at all, it's not that it's OVERLY hard, it just makes every battle take fucking forever, and I don't have to patience for it to get all of 75 gamer points.
To much other shit to play to waste my time going through that way.
Just finished my Mass Effect 1 playthrough with my renegade badass too, so about to start up another game. I figure I'll get halfway through the second playthrough before I'm burned out again. I saved the council this time.
God while I thought the ending to 2 was really good, I did partly forget how amazing the ending to one was as well.
A few notes: Dropping the Mako was a great idea, and it only really takes like 3 or 4 minutes to scan a whole planet if you do it well (still not good but whatever) So that's an upgrade over waht ME1 had since making a hundred planets interesting to explore is unlikely. i was worried at first about all the trimming down of RPG elements but I definitely have realized it was for the better there were just so many worthless little things added.
Also Joker having a bigger role in 2 is for the better.
Not forcing you to group with members the entire game was also the right idea, there are a lot of retarded achievements in the first one, I don't think there are any retarded ones in the second.
Also jesus the second one looks a hundred times better.
