Not me. The Half-Life series is what most people, including me, think of as the best games ever made. Those, and Ocarina of Time.
That's some dumb crap, Dale!
Why did Dale get banned?
We don't need a reason.
finished it and while I really enjoyed it, totally don't get where the "OMG more epic than 1" praise comes from. It's really REALLY good mechanically, but it's shorter and more streamlined in every way possible (also good), and the whole story feels like filler that's just pushing you to the final confrontation.
Again, amazing game! Just not with that sense of big that ME1 had. Which works in its own way...not nearly as boring as ME1 either.
I thought ME 2 is a lot longer than ME 1. The sidequests are more interesting/varied (maybe less of them).
This is standard "2nd part of a trilogy" feeling, so it's hard to fault them for something no one has ever gotten right.
ME1 doesn't feel big at all. In fact, with 1 major city, the universe seems quite barren in comparsion.
The epic scope of 1 felt better. I mean the citadel and earth was being destroyed. In this one we just kind of investigate some shit going on, and it turns out to be those jerks again!
ME2 is better regardless. The technical aspects of the game were top notch and the story was just as fun as the first. Planet scanning can suck a bag of dicks, though. If that shit wasn't in the game I might play through again. As it stands I really don't feel like rescanning for minerals, no matter how great the game is.
Started this yesterday! I'm liking it a LOT so far, all the little callbacks to Part 1 are really great. Had a couple of "oh yeahhhh I didn't finish that side quest did I" moments, hearing about the sorry fate of some of the side characters.
It's really great! I like how it builds on the material from the first but seems to be telling a much tighter story.
Both games are gr8! ME2 did seem to be over a bit too quickly, but I suppose I would have felt the same way about the first game if I hadn't gone out of my way to do a bunch of side missions. Didn't really want to planet scan to find side missions though, heh.
I don't have any more recruit mission, but I am missing the 2nd slot from the left.... who am I missing?
Your mom.
Holy shit to the ending of Overlord DLC. I mean, my chick is a bad ass renegade, but even I couldn't do the renegade option, it's THAT bad. It was a really good piece of sci-fi kudos to Bioware.
Played this basically all night last night, soooo good. Got the "one more level" syndrome bad, man. Combat on "Veteran" is really fun! I get killed a lot if I'm fucking around and bum rushing groups too much. The Vanguard powers are a blast, all psychic bowling ball and what not.
It's Star Wars for a sixth grade reading level, but man, sixth grade was pretty good, huh?
Got all the squad members but one so far, working on the "loyalty" missions, looking forward to a hardest difficulty playthrough later on!
I grabbed a point card yesterday and I'm going to grab Overlord this weekend. Is the Kasumi one worth picking up at full price? I've heard it's pretty short.
Don't bother with Kasumi. The mission is pretty weak and it's barely half an hour long. You do get a nice SMG out of it though.
I recently played through me1 and 2 back to back over a couple days. One thing I noticed is that renegade in the first game was the equivalent of being evil, while in 2 it was more like being a bad ass (not to say that 2 is void of evil but 1 is much more so imo). In the first game you could flat out execute innocent people.
For those who have a problem making renegade choices I can tell you that at first it is difficult, but once you have the taste of blood in your mouth you'll never want to go back.
I really loved being a Renegade in ME2, but I agree that it really just made you out to be an awesome, assertive bad-ass rather than evil.
But damn, the end of Overlord... that's the first choice where I would have felt truly evil going renegade.
I'm renegade in the fact that I don't take any shit and people get their dues. Anybody on my team I help when I can but I don't sugar coat stuff with them. I have been helping out Cerebus thus far just so taking them the fuck down will be that much sweeter in part three! :)
i regret giving them the collector base.....I need to start up a second game and go through it full Renegade
Oh there wasn't a renegade interrupt or even a red speech choice, i just meant choosing to let Cerberus continue to experiment on David
Oh yeah. Did you go back after and see it?
It's like congrats you heartless fuck, see what you've done.
The doctor's musical number was incredible!
Beat the game, only lost the lizard man (I knew he didn't have the backbone, but I sent him anyway). Great fun! I liked the Joker "interactive movie" section a lot.
i too loved it when Mordin starting singing, wish there was more of that :)
I saved David from those assholes and it was so bad ass to make Shepard pistol whip that Doc....this game is so fucking epic and Shepard is one of the Rowdiest game Heroes of all time :)
Here is my Shepard Character :)
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...1&d=1278557974
looks gay
It's always so weird seeing other people's Shepards, or even just the default Shepard; I'm always like "WTF? That's not what Shepard looks like." I guess it's because, unlike most games with custom characters, Shepard still has a pre-defined name, voice and personality no matter how you make him look, so you come to identify with him as much more of a "true" character than say, your Fable dude... but of course the whole time, this strong character you're bonding with has an appearance that YOU defined at the start of the game.
Dude I am the same way, anytime I see a Shepard that isn't mine just messes with my brain meats. :)
hahaha! that is Awesome!
Has this been posted yet? Maleshep is sucks.
I'ma go through a renegade playthrough at some point, but only after I figure out a way to get out of that miserable mineral garbage.
I've picked female Shep from the start*, she's cool. I had no clue the male voice was so stiff! (mine is bald with black lipstick, horray modern dress-em-up games)
How long did it take you all to get rid of the glowing acne?
Man, I've never noticed without them compared side by side but yeah, female shep is SOOOO much better.
I basically just scanned everything as I went, so price wasn't really a concern.
What did you send him to do, hold the line?
I lost the ensign / secretary red head chick and some of the crew. But I saved the Doc and a bunch of the crew. I had to do Legion's loyalty mission and I'd rather have him on my side than her useless ass. I'll never apologize, because having someone who can communicate with an entire species of machinoids will be infinitely more beneficial to destroying the Reapers than some girl whose only remarkable talent was feeding my retardedly expensive fish so they didn't die while I was out saving the galaxy. Good riddance. None of my actual team members ended up dying during the mission, though.
Yeah, whatever the second "hey you guys do this" mission was. His chump-ass got shot in the guts!
I saved the redhead! The old lady doctor was my drinkin' buddy.
True story, I'm used to wooden male shep. It's like a bad movie.
Me too. The world around him is so rich it's negligible. I don't like playing as women protagonists if I have the choice to play as a man. Not that I have anything against it (Final Fantasy 3 Terra was great) I just identify with it.
I can dig that. Also punching out the female reporter is better as male shep.
OMG BATTERED WOMEN
Better late than never? The PS3 is finally getting this in January.
Without the first game? Never would have been better.
The first game wasn't released on the PS3, so what's the point with this one? If you've played the first game, it was either on the 360 or PC. If you liked it enough, you probably played the sequel on the same system as well. It's just a weird scenario where someone would play and like the first game, pass on the sequel on the 360 or PC, and then decide to play it on the PS3. It's also a weird scenario for someone to not play the first game, get the sequel on the PS3, and then go back and play the first game on the 360 or PC.
Totally agree. But it'll sell modestly and set up perhaps some additional marketshare for ME3 on PS3. After all, I am sure a lot of people will lose their saves somehow between iterations or something similar.
I just got the 2nd game (from Icarusfall iirc) so I can't say if they have it already, but who's to say they don't just lump a small backstory bit at the start and call it a day? Do you really need to know the 1st games happenings for the 2nd? From what I read it's only necessary for those "oh, that connects back to the 1st game" bits and aren't integral to the overall story.
I do agree though that anybody who really wants to play it will have found a way by January.
The connections from the first to second game are trivial. Even the biggest decisions are glossed over and nothing really matters.
That said, ME1 is still worth playing for the main quest chain. Stuff actually happens. Nothing like part 2, in other words.
First trailer of PS3 version.
I was going to give you shit for posting a trailer of a port, but man the improvements are just fucking insane.
GOTY.
Are there idiots who don't install every 360 game they play?
I like the small details that carry over from ME1 to ME2 and now ME3. They're of no consequence but it really does help make the universe feel a little more familiar.
Yeah, I see this as the major reason for this happening: more potential for selling copies of ME3. I think it's always better for more people to be able to play a game than less, but it does really suck that PS3 owners will have NO option for playing the first chapter and then continuing that experience on the PS3 version of ME2. I also do wonder how it feels to be a PS3-dedicated gamer and continually get versions of games a year (if not more) later.
PS3 owners get arcade-perfect CPS2 games?
As a game, Mass Effect 2 stands pretty well on its own. But the first game spent so much time building the universe that you are missing out on a lot of the little details that make the series so special.
I spent way too much time trying to learn about the universe I was bored to tears and couldn't finish the first game. When I played the second game I was content to just follow the story, and while I didn't know everything, it felt as if I knew enough and enjoyed it as if I was watching a sci-fi movie. But that is me, and some people may need much more.
The first one was really good, the second one was ok. When I played the second one, I didn't use the save from my first one (was on a different xbox), and this didn't bother me at all. I guess it was weird for everyone to consider me a racist by default, but hey, them the breaks.
Eurogamer really liked the new ME2 DLC. I might actually pick it up.
Wait, this new DLC gives you Liara back, holy shit I'm in.
Yeah, I really want it but my 360 isn't online right now due to poor house planning. Gonna have to find some way to rig this shit so I can grab it, since it sounds like the first ME2 DLC actually worth getting.
So I'm playing through it now. It's easily up there with anything found in the main game. For example: I'm currently fighting my way through the raddest ship in the series to date. Such a great location.
I beat this game but haven't played any DLC other than the part that launched with the game. Can I use my save? Or what should I do? I don't really want to replay the game yet.
You can do the DLC after you've completed the main game. The stories rarely directly reference the boring Collector crap so it doesn't matter much.
edit: Finished the Shadow Broker DLC. Man, if more modern DLC was like this, I wouldn't be so down on the concept. It's by far the best post-release thing Bioware has done since Throne of Bhaal.
Excellent. Bioware really puts in a lot of effort into their DLC. I need to give this a download. I also want that armor that makes you look like Robocop!
Dragon Age's DLC all sounds kind of terrible to be honest.
Because it is.
Cecilia bought a ton of Dragon Age DLC, some of it is ok - but most is horrible
I like how characters try to shill the dlc in the game, it's classy.
Finally played some Shadow Broker DLC, this shit was good. It was a little stupid how they quoted Monty Python during what was supposed to be a serious reunion scene, but I can forgive one bad line for the excellence of the rest of it. Makes the year or so wait until Mass Effect 3 seem so much further away.
I think I only have Firestorm to finish up and then I'm totally done with every mission, which makes me a little sad because I'm still 1.5 levels from the cap and need about 100k more credits to get the last couple upgrades. So close to having everything done in one playthrough.
Side note: I did some planet scanning with my continued-after-the-end save and it's fucking lightning fast now, the way it should've been the whole time. Was that patched in or just an aftergame thing? I'll load up a new character and check that shit later, for a take-no-prisoners asshole run.
Was also a little sad that hooking up with Liara again in the DLC didn't get me the paramour achievement. I suppose Bioware is telling us the only real winners are the people that cheat.
You should get the Paramour achievement if you bang anybody before the suicide mission. Nothing cheating about that. I bed Jack and Liara before the jump gate.
Played the first game, didn't finish it.
So apparently the improved scanning was just a general patch from Bioware from forever ago that I didn't know about, good on them for that. Sadly, it also removed the infinite powers glitch that they said they wouldn't remove, but I guess it's because there's a chance any saves with the glitch might mess with the ME3 importing. Not really sure why they don't know if they have the ability to code their own upcoming product to check and enforce a points limit, but whatever.
We got the PS3 version in today.
I never played ME2, and haven't heard much about the PS3 rev aside from DLC is included and there are two extra characters.
Has anyone heard if the port is shitty like most 360->PS3 transfers are, or is this THE console version to get.
Developer claims it's the version to get because it uses the new engine.
That's the thing though, it's using a new engine. So while it may have problems, it's not really a port in the same way most other games are. They're probably speaking the truth.
If the demo is anything to go by then it's an upgrade AND a downgrade. Some things looked great and somethings looked worse.
lol. I put that there specifically to quiet your ramblings. :D
Final ME2 DLC on its way for the 29th. Sounds like it's probably decent.
Started off weak but turns out that was the point when it got a lot better. It's no Shadow Broker but it's still worth a play for anyone that still fires this game up.
Eh, I mean the story was kind of interesting but it was pretty weak in general. Running around solo the whole time just isn't fun.
I barely even noticed the solo thing. I usually only use my teammates as bullet shields anyway.
I use my teammates powers for breaking shields, so not having them to do that was a bit annoying.
Inferno + pistol/rifle = 2 or 3 shot dead shield. I only notice enemies have shields when they resist my biotics.
Inferno is armor, static shock is shield.
My character is a vanguard who has neither of those.
So yeah shields and armor end up being a lot of work without my party members to tear them apart quick.
Maybe you should respec. My character is a vanguard too and I use max inferno ammo with the explosive ability, usually makes people run around panicking even if they have shields up. The only other power I use is shockwave, and maxing out destroyer also helps kick ass.
