Cramer vs. Stewart

You have to be kidding me...I watched the first 3 minutes of that and the worst thing I heard is "he needs a middle gear"...um, what? In that same time frame I heard, "Obama's too hard on himself" and "It's not like anyone owned up to anything in the last several years in the White House" (or something along those lines)...

My point wasn't that it was hilarious or really harsh, but that they spent their entire first segment on Obama, with a pretty negative spin on things.

So I take it no one watches the show anymore? After all, that was completely unfunny

Also the latter part of the election cycle wasn't going to be about Obama, when McCain decided to pick a complete comedic goldmine as his running mate. Again, they go for the funny.

Do you think he could have gotten Obama to come on if he did? They had to pre-approve questions and all that shit, especially that late in the cycle. McCain wouldn't even come on at that point, and like I said he'd done the show countless times before (and was pitched nice, marshmallowy softballs most of the time, btw).

You're really just being unreasonable here. No one is saying that they're 100% balanced or that they're real news, but their first allegiance is to entertainment over politics, that's all I'm saying. Jon Stewart has O'Reilly on and kisses his ass, for fucks sake.

So if Jon Stewart is all about integrity, why have him on in the first place?

It's a comedy show, stupid. We've been trying to say it's more comedy than commentary, not that it's more journalism than commentary.

Jon Stewart is generally seen as being a competitor to (and in the same genre as) Letterman, Leno, and Conan. It's not a news show and doesn't pretend to be. The debate here is whether or not they're trying to influence people's opinions in a big way, and I think the answer is "Sometimes, but generally no."
