A Chinese man has died after trying to catch his girlfriend as she attempted to commit suicide from a seventh floor balcony, according to local media.
The man, identified only as Mr Wang, was killed on impact as he held out his arms to break the woman's fall from their apartment in the southern city on Quanzhou on Tuesday night, the Straits Capital News reported.
The girlfriend — who has not been named — was badly hurt with broken bones but her injuries were not life-threatening, the report said.
Prior to the fall, witnesses reportedly heard the couple arguing in their apartment, with the woman said to have made threats to her boyfriend about committing suicide.
Mr Wang was later seen standing on the street pleading with his girlfriend not to jump.
According to the report, the woman was incoherent when speaking to doctors after the incident — sometimes giving her age as 18 and other times quoting it as 30.
She remains in a local hospital receiving treatment.
