That was, by far, the most brutal thing I have ever witnessed.
There's a lot that's being said, a lot of people wondering a lot of things and voicing a lot of opinions about this, and I think the officiating was beyond terrible in this game, but I really only have to make one point, and one observation:
1) How the fuck do you let Havelid and Greene take a shift with under 3 minutes to go.
2) the Parise line was so gassed Langenbrunner couldn't move 5 feet before the final goal was scored.
That's really all. That and my heart is completely broken. I can't even be optimistic for next year, because this team was built to win this year, and with Zubrus a proven bust and Rolston being such a nonphysical wimp I have got nothing to look forward to.
I did buy a Chico Eats t-shirt and meet Clemmensen's wife and daughter tonight. She was next to me in line at the store, buying a baby jersey for their tiny daughter, which she was getting lettered and numbered with Clemmensen's stuff.
I can relate this to a few things: Norwood and the Music City Miracle, which I didn't care much about since I'm not a Bills fan, and the Yanks blowing the World Series to the Red Sox, which I didn't care about too much since I'm not a baseball fan, but in hockey, this is the most brutal thing I've ever seen in my short life, and in my life as a Devils fan. Far and away.
I laughed at the Washington fans wearing ponchos behind the Rangers bench.
Didn't get to see much of the NJ game but I figured Yoshi would jump on lucky series bounces and whatnot. It happens in every series dude. Give the Canes some credit. I think the NHL world would implode if the Caps beat Sensational Sid. It'll be interesting to see who's been "chosen" for this series.
The Rags game was a heartbreaker. Not much needs to be said there. I think Tort put it very well in the post game.
I won't say the Federov knee hit was intentional, but it should definately have been a penalty. Just like a high stick, even if unintentional you need to control both your stick and limbs.
Enjoy soccer, guys. I'll be watching the Pens. Also, when you have a piece of shit player like Avery, you should know what you're gonna get with him. Nobody likes him and no one is gonna stick up for him. He deserves what he gets.
No, Changeling, you're wrong and what you're saying is exactly what's wrong with the league. A penalty is a penalty whether you're public enemy #1, like Avery, or the league's princess, like Cindy. Avery, for the most part, has played outstanding hockey with very few antics or cheap shots. No more than Ruutu, for example.
Avery was the best player on the ice last night, from either team, and he deserves to treated like every other NHL player. Then again, when you're used to favortism like you (Crosby) apparently are, it might seem just.
Chris Drury played the entire series with a broken hand. Ouch.
Very few antics ? Only because he didn't have the chance to commit more because he was suspended. Avery is shitty and does more fucked up shit than Ruutu ever has. What kills me is that you and Yoshi always accuse the Pens of getting every call and the refs having a protective bubble around Crosby. How many games do you actually watch ? I watch all of them. I see us get shitty calls against us too. Its part of the game. I'm not a Crosby worshipper at all. I'm glad we have him, but I wish he was a different player. He has gotten alot better with the diving bullshit and crying. He still has his moments, but then again, didn't I see Marty throw a temper tantrum in the playoffs this year ? Sometimes people overreact, especially when they're losing, but the players are only human, too.
