2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs

I'm pretty amazed at how not depressed I am over this.

It's got to be one of these:
I expected this to come out of this group.
I'm older now and less emotionally vested in it.
I've had my heart broken by this team and am going to emotionally dead over hockey for the rest of my life.

It's a little distressing. I mean, any way you look at it it seems that I'm never going to love/get into hockey the way I did growing up ever again, either because I'm getting older or because I've had my heart broken.

I feel a lot like I feel after I broke up with my first long term girlfriend.

Preach on brother! I feel the same way. Its like the rug was pulled out from under me and landed on my face. I'm sorry but hockey hit its peak in like 1993. The league has become a joke overall and just to fuck over Bettman, l hope Cindy and Alexis collide knees and ruin Betz's scheme to maximize HIS gain and not the league's. Also if a potential lockout happens again, l hope ALL the "stars" go overseas and the league tanks out. I love the Devils and have since like '84 but fuck this new NHL. Hell l wouldn't notice if ALL 4 major sports dissolved, l can spend my time doing more productive things. But l love this hockey thread and the peeps on here, so I'm game to always chat it up here and give my 2 cents or Xbox Live it up! Cheers and go Devils even if l do slowly fade away from the game.

See, this where you should give Rangers fans and, even more so, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, etc.... fans credit for being lifelong devoted fans of organizations that don't win for great lengths of time.

Imagine, if you will, being a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.

A couple of days ago was probably the worst loss in the history of your franchise. That's a shitty thing to deal with, but you'll recover. I dealt with the Rangers going to the finals in '79 only to lose to Montreal because one of their greatest talents got hurt (on a nasty fucking play) and was never the same again. It sucks, but you'll feel different in October.

Indeed. Also, you don't know pain until you become a Pittsburgh Pirate fan :lol: . Every year we start out well only to suck halfway through till the end. We're going to break the record for most consecutive losing seasons this year.

That's why it pisses me off when I get the "yeah but how many championships have we won in our lifetimes" comments from him and Yoshi. To have Cow all crybabying (remember my Jeckyll and Hyde comment? :evil:) about being heartbroken and emotionally dead because they lost in the first round.... big deal. At least they made it in after not having their main goalie most of the season. Yeah it stings when they don't perform to your lofty aspirations but it happens. If we get swept by Vancouver will you hear me crying about it? Fuck no. We have a great young squad that has brought the fanbase back to the city. They've already accomplished more than I could have expected and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Hey, Error, enjoy Tom Renney if you get him. I'll guarantee the Oilers make the playoffs if he's the coach.

Well, you know what, the Devils won the cup in 2002-3, which means going into next year they'll be entering year 7 without a championship. Assuming they don't win in the next few years I think they'll appreciate more and more what their franchise accomplished while simultaneously realizing how really fucking hard it is to do. 1/30 = ~ 3.33% chance your team will win the Cup if all things are even. Stanley Cup = toughest championship in sports.

This year's postseason was to determine which team was better in the 2000 decade, NJ or Detroit, and we lost. That's pretty sad. You can call me "spoiled" or whatever but I know you are all just jealous that my team's been awesome for more of my life than not.

I'll be back in October, obviously. I just...I used to get a lot more emotional over this, and the lack of a strong emotional response from me here is a little scary, and that's why it feels like after I broke up with my first long term girlfriend.

Man I was so fucking bored last night with no hockey on.

Jealous? LOL. I don't think so. I want the Rangers to win and, if they don't, it's not really a big deal who does. I don't care who the "team of the decade" is either.

Yeah, no hockey yesterday was crappy. Real crappy.
