Do You Restrict Yourself in the Games You Play/Try?

Past couple years I only played MMO type games but recently I got back into consoles (circle of life..started off with them ;p). Do you find yourself not trying new games or different types of games because you have a preconceived notion of what you like? I know I haven't played a racing game in forever, and I bet I would like one if I played it. Granted not having Console "X" could be a problem if it's an exclusive but for the most part there is a buffet out here...are you eating all of it, or being a glutton in one section? :)

No. I play whatever has the most buzz and that's pretty much it.

I think having jobs, relationships, and social lives cut into all of our game needs. If it doesn't then you suck dick at life.

This is actually a pretty good thread topic for a brand new poster, and you all know I savor the opportunity to hammer noobs.

It takes an incredibly promising portable game to get me to play it. That stems from the fact that I cannot stand what people call "portable games". In other words, genres or twists on genres designed specifically for portables. I will stomach a portable version of a console series if I don't have any other current option. The PSP's TV-out helps this as well. For example, the only way to play Xexex without an arcade board or MAME is on the Salamander Portable PSP release.

As far as console / PC games go, I never got very into RTS games, so I only bother with ones that are both exceptional (reportedly) and in my sweet spot for theme (horror / sci-fi). Thus, I essentially play StarCraft and gave a quick try to Empire at War.

The same is true, to a lesser extent, of puzzle games. I suspect this overlaps with the "portable game" discussion, but there are very few puzzle games I really like. I'm a huge fan of Puzzle Bobble, and I can kill some time with the Tetris / Puyo Puyo games, but I can't justify actually buying retail releases of them. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is one game that I always wanted to like but could never get into.

Traditional Japanese RPGs rarely do it for me anymore either. I played a lot of them up until around the Chrono Cross time frame. In fact, that might be the last one I finished. Since then, I enjoyed Final Fantasy XII a lot but haven't finished it yet. I really like SRPGs, a la Final Fantasy Tactics, but the traditional stuff just bores me to death.

I'll probably never play another mmorpg because I find them excruciatingly boring and a terrible time sink, if the few days I spent on meridian 59 have anything to say of it... of course that "time sink" comment could be applied to rpgs in general

I don't play MMORPG either. A colossal waste of time with all the grinding and then all the stupid drama with people. No thanks.

I play what I think looks fun, and that could literally be anything. But yeah, I'm done with MMOs, fuck em.
