I still think the original DMC is the best of this subgenre. DMC3 got a little too goofy for me, but I think it's better than any GoW or NG game.
God of War II has better gameplay than the original, but the first had a better story. They're great games, and I love Greek mythology, but I prefer DMC for the gothic horror elements and guns.
The NG games are good, but I never took to the combat.
Helter Skelter. It's better than DMC2.
HS = Heavenly Sword.
I've actually been replaying the original Devil May Cry and, while it is still a great game, there are a bunch of issues that were more or less resolved in later games of the subgenre. The camera in DMC1 is definitely based on Resident Evil, with all the problems that come with it. The angles are a great deal more "cinematic" than later games in the genre, which means that you do a lot of shooting at offscreen enemies. There are also little niggles with the way dodging works, as there's a slight enough delay to really throw you off if you're used to the more responsive and higher priority dodge moves of later games like DMC3 or NG.
:lol: And yet ARBM's explanation was so plausible.
Yoshi, get GoW collection on bluray. Worth a playthru.
I will eventually. I have way too much shit I need to finish to buy anything at release price right now though.
My incentive of finishing games is that I can get rid of the completed games for new stuff.
