SOTN is the only good "Metroidvania". All the others are terrible. I don't know how Konami keeps pumping them out.
I too have found reviewers to be more and more clueless as the years wear on. I have a very demanding job and gaming is merely a hobby yet i seem to have forgotten more about games than the entire Gamespot and Kotaku staffs know combined. How useless.
I will say we can agree that most gaming "journalists" suck huge donkey dicks.
Though I disagree with the broad statement that all the metroidvanias are terrible. Some of them are pretty damn good, and I'd play anyone of them 5 times over before I touch Curse of Darkness again. That was complete horse shit pressed into a disc with the Castlevania name slapped on it.

I'll also say my top 3 in no particular order are SotN, III, and Rondo.
Which was the one with the guy that climbed the walls? I like that one.
Also: SotN is the best castlevania. Fuck your childhood.
