Supposedly the review code was tainted, and I doubt anyone on this board has actually bought/rented both, so no. If anyone with the 360 version can confirm if the framerate stutters or pauses with finishing moves then maybe.

It's been fine for me on the 360 so far.
My main complaint for the visuals is all of the fuzzy shadows all over the place and the LOL-tastic persistent shaky cam.
I actually own both versions.
The PS3 version runs a little bit better since the 360 version constantly lags behind by about 2-3 frames. David Cox lied about the framerate being better in the 360 retail copies. It remains the same as the demo/final review code.
There are stutters in the in-game cinemas that do not occur in the PS3 version of the game.
There is a standard pause in the game during some attacks. Think of Zelda games. But as far as the 1 second freeze that appears in the Gamespot video review, it has not happened to me.
I have the game installed completely to the 360 hdd. David Cox lied again. There is no way to play off one disc. When you reach chapter 7, you will need to pop in disc 2 to continue. Likewise, if you go back to chapters 1-6, you will need to pop in disc 1 again. Tedious.
PS3 it is, then. Good to know.
WTF are you talking about? None of these problems are in my game. Maybe the disc thing since I haven't gone back but everything else is fine. Maybe your 360 is shit?
Maybe the issues are only noticeable in a comparison? Sounds like a case of if you care enough to worry then pick the PS3, but anyone who blindly grabs a version won't give a shit.
There are actually a fair number of TNLers on PS3 basically all the time now it seems. Besides, not getting MvC2 invites from Ramon when he knows you don't own the damn game is a feature.
LOL, point taken.
I hate that fucking Chupacabra. Knowing it's Kojima makes me hate him even more.
Well, my 360 is from September 2007. I just have upgraded to a 60GB HDD. But I also saw it happen on my cousin's brand new 250GB Xbox S unit. He didn't like the game all that much and gave it to me. That's why I have both versions.
It's a shame more TNLers are not playing this. It's very good. Every level gets better and better. It's amazing the art that went into the game considering how quick you blow past some of it. I like this way more than God of Bore3.
Yeah, I can't believe we're basically talking to each other either. I finished Chapter V this morning, and it was easily the best one yet. The abbey library was particularly awesome, and the outdoor scenery leading up to the castle was breathtaking. In a million years I didn't think I'd say this, but New Vegas almost has no chance at GotM.
The hedgemaze stage was frustrating as fuck. I'm sick of games changing camera angles and fucking up controls. There's been so many times the camera changes, I change direction on my control to coincide with the view change and he just keeps right on going a completely different direction. I also had to restart a stage. I was climbing the abby and had a quicksave while rappelling up the side. This save was right when a handhold collapses. I got stuck in the geometry every reload and had to start the stage from the beginning.
Aside from this. Good game so far.
I'm hoping to score this for my birthday next month. I'm glad that it sounds like a good game.
Think I'm gunna pick this one up tonight, watched my buddy play it last night and it seems pretty solid.
The music is actually pretty good as well.
This is a $20 game if ever there was one. Nudge me in ten weeks.
I knew it would be a long time before Compass was right again after the Disney thread.
It's really not that good.
This thread isn't about your taste.
I haven't cracked this open because everyone says the game runs like ass
You play all console games. They almost always cap at 30 FPS, so that's clearly not an issue for you. It runs fine for a console game.
Yeah, I don't know where all of these complaints about performance come from because it runs just fine.
30 FPS doesn't bother me though; I just heard that it really isn't that close to 30.
I guess I will have to see for myself this week!
Demo on 360 is still gold only fucking stupid ass shit.
This is one o those games that just gets better and better. Once you start gaining more abilities and grasping the combat its great. Though a puzzle or two less would be fine by me. And the game DOES NOT I repeat DOES NOT run like dogshit on 360. Stop worrying about it.
Haters gonna hate.Quote:

The ledge hopping and chain swinging in this is so goddamn awful. Whine all you want about God of War but at the very least they fucking nailed that shit.
Yeah. Uncharted nailed ledge hopping and that came out how long ago?
The fight in the castle against the vampires while struggling to open the windows was awesome, as was the butcher fight.
I absolutely hated the fight against the girls protector towards the start when his black goo chased you. At least one other boss does this.
Finally, fuck the chess type game. I had three guys left, the other side had one. They kept getting three chances that would oddly enough land on the only character it had. Simply amazing.
For anyone still on the fence, let me put it like this:
Castlevania Lords of Shadow is this year's Batman: Arkham Asylum.
The game just keeps getting better and better the more you play.
My problem with Castlevania isn't that it's bad, because it isn't, but rather that it's a decent combat game and little else. It's got a few cut-scenes too many and takes itself a bit too seriously, and I can deal with that, but it's basically God of War rather than Castlevania. If you took away the Castlevania name and changed nothing else, would it get the same level of enthusiasm?
Hmm... scratch that. I think I'd like it better without Castlevania in the title. Then it could be its own thing rather than weighted down with expectations of things that just aren't going to be in there.
James
I love the Castlevania series and this game feels like a Castlevania game to me. I don't know why people keep saying it doesnt. Im at chapter 11 now and I'm still enjoying this way more than God of Bored.
I did just come across a battle with a shitload of zombies where the framerate dropped to the single digits. Yikes. Otherwise the framerate hasnt bothered me at all.
Eh, the game captures the Castlevania setting pretty well but it just takes itself too seriously. It also doesn't help that the gameplay is 99% identical to God of War.
I'm in the chromatic observatory trying to solve the puzzle to get the green(?) lens. Apparently I have to invoke the dark magic and dash around the square. The corner tiles light up but the ones inbetween don't
You have to use the charge dash with the left trigger and not the double click the stick dash.
Gotcha. Thanks.
Well, that really demands the following question: what is Castlevania? SOTN and the handheld games are all Super Metroid clones, the two N64 games are closer to Tomb Raidern than anything, and the two last generation are Devil May Cry clones. Is it really fair to complain about this game being a God of War clone when there hasn't been a truly distinct Castlevania game since the 16-bit era (okay, apart from Castlevania Rebirth)?
Personally, from what little I've played based on the demo and a bit of dicking around with the PS3 version, it nails the dark medieval style of Castlevania, which really is all that defines the series at this point.
Looking at this game, I got very much of an Arkham Asylum vibe from it. Is anybody else concerned that beat/hack 'em ups are drifting towards autopilot? Mash buttons and out comes a combo that surprises the player just as much as the enemies, press the kill button and zoom in to watch a quick execution movie, spam the thumb stick and you end up facing what you need to be killing when you're in a mob... It has been feeling more like advancing the text in a 16 bit cut scene than playing a game. The game needs you to press a button for the action to continue, but what it continues into was written before you even started playing.
This game has nothing in common with Arkham Asylum.
In a move that makes me remember why blockbuster is going out of business, they're not carrying this game for rent.
Fuck off.
Sequel incoming.

There's going to be a sequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Spanish developer MercurySteam has apparently already begun work on it.
Oscar Araujo, composer of the game's soundtrack, jovially broke the news to Spanish radio. He said, "If you liked the first [game], hope that the second is even more spectacular," Eurogamer Spain reported.
It was common knowledge that Konami had developer MercurySteam at work on a new game, but until now only speculation pointed to a Castlevania sequel.
Araujo went on to say that Konami had asked for a "rough" and "aggressive" score to contrast with the series' "effeminate" old image.
Konami has offered Eurogamer "no comment" on the news.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was released here last week. The game managed high scores - 8/10 here on Eurogamer - and went on to place sixth in the UK all-formats chart.
Digital Foundry finally tore the two version apart.

Just finished the fight against the head vampire (I dunno, maybe its not a spoiler, whatever.) The art in those levels is SO AWESOME and the more you upgrade your guy the more awesome the fighting gets. I love this game.
I just finished Chapter VII. I really like the variety of puzzles so far. Considering there is another difficulty (you pussies are playing on Knight, right?) plus all the hidden stuff and the trials, I could easily be playing this until Christmas with the other new releases mixed in.
Yes. That remains a pet peeve of mine despite the fact that my favorite games of this generation all do it.
Shitty.
Zuh? The music had nothing to do with the series' effeminate old image. That was man music.Quote:

What Lords of Shadow leaves behind is the Castlevania look. There's a clear evolution of the series from Castlevania to IV to Bloodlines to Symphony of the Night to Circle of the Moon and onwards, with all the games keeping certain iconography in place. Lords of Shadow jettisons the works, becoming an action game in gothic Euro-land with no obvious connection to any other games set in gothic Euro-land. Obviously this doesn't make it a bad game, but it does make its title feel like a branding stunt.

I love GoW gameplay (minus the QTEs) and I always loved Castlevania but the demo is fucking weak sauce. I'll still pick it up just on all the good things being said here but I hope it is MUCH better than that demo.
Chapter VIII done. I found the fight with Carmilla significantly easier than the one with Olrox, though it may have just been that I was hungry and sloppy on the latter, since I took a lunch break in-between. I've also gotten better and finding the magic gems. I have a lot more 76% (best you can do on first play through) lately than I did early on.
ProTip: Do not look up the Achievements/Trophies for this, or they will spoil the last fight.
I've actually got two level with 92%. Or did you mean without going back for the bonus objective?
James
Yeah, I literally mean the first time through.
I haven't had an issue yet, but this would suck.

These are dark times -- if you're paranoid about losing hours of game progress. Some users have reported an unusual save glitch in the PlayStation 3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Affected players report being prompted with a message upon startup, which reads, "Save file corrupt, will now overwrite, press X to continue." Needless to say, pressing X leads to grim results.
Konami has acknowledged the problem -- which it says is restricted to a small number of users -- and promised a patch is en route to eradicate erroneous erasure. We'll let you know when we hear a firm release date, and recommend you keep a backup of your save file on a USB drive in the meantime.
I knew the 360 version was better.
OMG please tell me it's Patrick Stewart's character who seems to be all buddy buddy in the trailers HEY GUESS WHAT I'M BAD, DUDE.
Just played the demo and I was blown away. Purchase for sure. Just as soon as I am done with Fallout: New Vegas, Castlevania should be about 25 bucks by then!
Is it worth it to go back to each chapter and do the challenges, like in terms of getting stuff (besides xp)? I did the first few and then just kept going to each new level, but if I'm missing out on something cool I'd go back and try them out.
Finally got to play the demo and it has me convinced to wait for this to be dirt cheap.
I was pretty underwhelmed by the demo. To me it felt really, generic I guess. I felt you could have dropped Kratos into the demo, and outside of them not talking about Greek gods, he would have fit perfectly. It could be different in the final game, but the demo didn't give off that feeling. The game I played, that the demo represented, isn't worth 60 bucks to me. When you also add in that I've been burned 3 times now on 3D Castlevania games, and this demo really needed to wow me to sell it at full price. That just didn't happen so I'll wait for the inevitable price collapse.
The game really is good, played a bunch more tonight and it just (as everyone has said) keeps getting better the more you play. I doubt you'd feel burned paying full price for this game, then again if you have other shit to play you won't hate yourself for waiting till it goes down. But you should for sure get it at some point.
As far as I can tell, there are no incentives for doing the trials except an achievement/trophy for completing them all. Maybe if it unlocked other costumes or something, even just bonus xp, but don't think I'll bother as is.
Oh hell yes. Green light that shit, Konami.
Will they ape GoW like they aped GoW?
See what I did?
Very good to know, thanks. I got 16% on a level and it was a short one and I have no fucking clue what you could do to get any other percentage, so going back to those levels just for an achievement is out of the question. Good to know I can just plow through the game without missing anything important.
As much as I would love to see some new Contra I don't think it can be done justice in 3D. There is just no way to make bullets fly at you from every angle and skillfully be able to avoid them all while you still plow forward. There is just no way in 3D to get into that "zone" you can get into with one of the quality 2D Contra games.
Maybe I wasn't clear with my first statement. I have no doubt someone can get into a zone while playing Vanquish (Robots of War?) but it is nothing like the one you can get into with Contra. In Contra you have bullets coming at you from every angle that you can see (even behind you) that you are able to dodge EVERY one of because of your skill. When you don't pull that off it is because your skill wasn't up to snuff. Now I'm not saying that Vanquish isn't a fantastic game but it isn't what I just described.
I don't think that can be done in 3D and so far history has proved me right. There have been some fantastic action games in 3D but none of them give you that full Contra experience.
Only in North America if this list is correct: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PSOne_Classics
I loved One also and I think to this day it is the best stab at a 3D Contra. I can at least see an argument over that one. Vanquish on the other hand I just don't agree with. Contra can't have bullet time ever, it's just wrong.
PS3 fanboy? When I'm playing through on the 360, eh? Keep telling yourself that, sunshine. How far in the game are you?
"Waaah" said the 360 fanboy.
When fighting Pan and at the end when he throws the blades at you, are you supposed to grab it like the rock in the ice titan fight or press a button like any other QTE? So far neither has seemed to work
The latter.
Wow, I can't believe how much the story in this game sucked. Thanks, Kojima!
Still, they did a pretty good job at shutting up and staying out of the way of the game for the most part, barring the beginning and end. It's weird how level 1, 2, and 12 had all the plot, and everything else was just traveling.
James
Cinemas =/= plot. There was light plot throughout, just like golden era games.
So about that ending.
So white haired guy, who betrayed you calls you friend and is still alive. You turn into Dracula (which I had a feeling they would considering how much they talked about being broken mentally and finally not getting his wife back). Then it's in present day. So they can go two ways with this. Continue the story in present day and have techno versions of all the enemies. With wires and lights and generators sticking out of them (becuase you know we wouldn't keep the old style designs) or we could possibly have the next game between the 1st and the end. To explain Gabriels fall. Pretty cool seeing Slogra.
What was your playtime? Just curious.
Probably around 10-15 hours. I went back before the ending to get some more items. If there's an in-game clock I could check it later if you want.
Also, the music for the clock tower stage is very LOSTish. I loved how the music box melody (from playing the cylinders) was the Castlevania 1 first stage theme. I have the soundtrack on my PS3 and just let the system music player sit at the planet earth visualizer every so often.
I started going back to play on Paladin and to get missed items and trials. I never went back at all on the initial play through, so I'm getting all the weapon upgrades that will probably make Paladin too easy. I am at 67% overall completion now out of 110% total. The best thing so far is having the boots and wings for the bog. No more muck wading!
Got out of work an hour early, grabbed this, and the wife is sick on the couch in my game room.
She is NEVER in the game room. Irritated.
What's the problem? Grab her by the ankles and start pulling. She won't have the strength to resist much (as I'm sure you are already used to). Quite contaminating the entire joint!
LOL yeah.
Anyway, got to the place where that gypsy looking chick fucks up the big werewolf with some big titted demon, and went to bed.
