Some quick impressions:
-Gameplay is rad except for switching from 2d plane to FP which is ass.
-Too easy so far
-The story is disappointingly boring but watchable the only big gripe is that Samus uses that same I'm-two-seconds-from-cutting-my-wrists depressed voice for all the narrating it's pretty annoying.
-And you can't see the maps for other floors other than the one you're on. That ones not that big a deal but it did irk me.
So I'm house sitting for John and, as he predicted, this comes in the mail the day he leaves for five days. But that means I get to play it!
Put a few hours into it and it's fun. I don't mind the story or the controls. Switching views is even ok. The random dodge is the most annoying thing, probably.
Game feels kind of cheapy, like a DLC title or something. I was far, far more impressed with Prime when that came out.
I don't know if I'd buy it. Definitely not for $50 whole American dollars.
Up to the start of Sector 1 now. Fun, but clunky and disappointing. Feels like a step backward, and this is coming from someone who sticks up for Metroid 2. Prime for GC was awkward at first control wise, but it quickly gelled in a Ranger-X sort of way before the 1st boss. Hopefully it gets better.
This game is pretty meh so far. I keep hoping for save points so I can turn it off and do something else.
I like this quite a bit, actually. TNL's initial reaction may have lowered my expectations a bit, but I like the linear action pace. I've been a fan of Team Ninja games so I might take to this style a bit easier than those who expected the more methodically paced Metroid games. I don't mind the cutscenes and think they're actually somewhat helpful in emphasizing what early on (not very far I am) seems to be a maternal theme that the game will focus on. Even the tone of Samus' voice seems effective in this regard. Otherwise, I don't really put much weight in videogame stories so the gameplay is more than satisfactory for me thus far.
I do find it odd that Metroid has been more willing and able to provide me with a linear action paced game in Other M and Fusion than the Castlevania games which have not been able to give me that loving feeling that I had earlier become accustomed to.
