That's like a year old though. There hasn't been anything else?
There's a couple of new ones. http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail...AutD4Yq#images
So, wait, what the hell is Nintendo doing? Mario Galaxy 2 on May 23, Sin and Punishment 2 on June 7, and Metroid on June 27? Are they feeling alright? Guess I'm going to need to sell some plasma to afford these and 3D Dot Heroes and Red Dead Redemtion. Not to mention StarCraft 2 should be coming out around then.
Damn, it's a 2.5D game that you use just the wiimote to control. You can go into first person mode simply by pointing at the screen. Nice.
Yeah, Nintendo usually spreads out their releases. I can understand why they didn't give us S&P2 during the Christmas season last year despite it being ready since they had NSMB and other competition but releasing it in the small window in between Galaxy 2 and Metroid seems like a way to guarantee shitty sales for it.
I'm not crazy about the art style. It looks better in motion than in the stills, and I don't mind that they're going for a more vibrant Super Metroid/GBA Metroids look for it. I just find the lack of attention to detail in the environments disappointing. Specially since that was something Retro did an amazing job at. Every room and corridor felt unique and organic, just very well thought out and designed. This feels to be lacking that. That said though its a 2.5D Metroid game, I will definitely be getting it day one.
go read this.

i really hate her young looking eyes in this but...it's an ok read. i also hope they don't stick samus with a gross whiny japanese chicky voice. yuck.
Some gameplay footage. Looks really fucking good.
Looks like a QTE festival, but pretty rad all in all!
huh, autoaim like mad
We'll see. Team Ninja means I'm pretty optimistic with this one.
Game looks badass (!) but can the "Other M" part of the logo be any more tacked on?
I love that it only uses the remote.
Looks awesome.
I haven't seen auto aim like that since Thexder.
Looks like fun. I really like the "point n' first person". Great idea.
But the graphics look unusually awful for Team Ninja.
Can't wait.
LOL nope. You have to shift how you're holding it, point the remote at the screen and fire to fire missiles.
Christ. Would it kill them to support the frickin' nunchuck? Running around in 3D space with a dpad just doesn't feel right.
Either gonna be like Shadow Complex or Divide: Enemies Within. Can't say I'm hopeful, but I thought Metroid Prime was gonna be terrible, and I was very, very wrong. Firmly wait and see on this one.
Wow, I've never even heard of Divide before. Quick googling informs me that I owe it to myself to at least play it. Thanks for the heads-up!
Its a 2D side scroller, there are times when you can go in and out, but there's no constant Z movement.
Looking forward to this one. Hopefully there'll be classic controller support cause that whole tilting shit sounds lame.
1990 WAS an extension of 1989, it's true.
In the Outworld, there is no time.
Preorder through Amazon to get a $20 Gift Card, help TNL, and fuck GameStop.
This looks exceptional.
The only thing that I've heard that I don't like is having to go into first person view to fire missles, which obviously some bosses and enemies require to take down, but once in said mode you cannot move, so you're gunna eat some major damage as the enemies are very quick and you must be very precise with your aim. That just sounds like a hassle. Besides that, can't wait.
I believe so, but it's a significant amount of time. At least months. And they stack, unlike the useless GameStop ones.
I think it's 60 days. It's never a really big deal though because you can always just drop it on a preorder if you somehow run out of time.
Somebody made a little fan-made manga in the spirit of the old Nintendo Power comic
http://metroid-database.com/manga/in...d=72#manga_top
which coincidentally, is up there: http://metroid-database.com/manga/index.php?vid=1&cid=1
I didn't know Nintendo Power had that much fan service in it.
There was totally a shower scene in the NP comic.
New trailer is out.

I don't know. I feel like this game is a disaster. Camera angles looked awkward, fuck switching to first person to "aim", all of the close quarters action doesn't scream Metroid to me.
I want to be wrong.
Looks great to me.
I'm with Kevin James on this one. This game just looks... Misguided. Of course I've been wrong on literally every Metroid game after Super so who knows.
I have to agree with Chux. I was really excited when I first saw this, but as they've shown more, I've become wary. I hope it rocks, but I'm definitely "wait and see" with it.
It looks like it's gonna be a solid game that deviates too far from what (used to, anyway) makes Metroid the jam.
Jack of all trades, master of none imo.
I'm still going to gamble, given that Amazon is giving a $20 gift card with it. I'll use that gift card for Castlevania no matter what, and I know I can get $30+ back for Metroid, even if it sucks.
I'm all for Team Ninja giving me a kick ass action game with a Metroid theme, instead of a new traditional Metroid game that Team Ninja just happened to develop. On that note, I haven't looked at any videos or screen shots beyond what was shown at E3 press conferences, but, like Yoshi, I'm ordering from Amazon and know I can flip this easily if it does blow. I'm willing to take that chance.
It's worth noting that this project was overseen by Yoshio Sakamoto from Nintendo R&D, it's not a straight Team Ninja product. This talk with the developers is really interesting:
http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/metroid...vol1_page1.jspQuote:
What Sakamoto-san had in mind, however, was to make the controls as simple as those of a NES game. When I asked Sakamoto-san 'So it's 'a NES game with the latest technology', right?' he replied 'That's exactly what it is'.
I've been a little wary that you control everything with the Wii d-pad even though it's 3D with multiple camera angles. And also the story elements.
But I don't think it's worth worrying about. Nintendo very rarely fucks up gameplay. They know what they're doing in that department at least.
Having to stand still while in first person mode is complete dumbshit and will add difficulty where it doesn't need to be. I'm sick of artificial challenge because of a control decision.
I can't decide which subtitle is worse: Other M or Birth By Sleep
Dyne's new avatar is awesome. Bertien vs. Ernator.
I agree. That compounded with having to play with a bot in single player RE5 took the game down some notches for me. I wanted so bad to play by myself and not babysit a brain dead partner that used up my goodies.
I read an interview that said you have to do it sometimes during boss fights to find their weak spot. Fuck that. All that is is dumb frustration. I'll still play the game but I know it's going to aggravate the fuck out of me.
You're determined to hate it before you've even played it.
THAT MAKES IT MOAR CHALLENGING ... CHALLENGE = FUN!
Remember how cool it was in MGS1 when you went into FPS mode and couldn't move forward? Oh wait.
I'm sure they didn't design the game with any of this in mind.
Seriously, have any of you watched the gameplay trailers, or anything else? It looks like you go into first person view for quick actions and then go back to the regular view.
Gametrailers preview is live http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pr...d-other/702847
Or they could you know, keep the flow of the game going and not hamper it with FPS horse shit.
I still hate the fact you go into first person and you stand still.
The videos look good to me. I'm glad it doesn't seem like a rehash of the Prime games but I think the larger focus on story elements and other humans being around is a mistake for the series. It was the worst aspect of the last Metroid game.
Adamant about being fucking retarded.
American TV ad. Very nice!
Nice ad; but that shit will only work on people that are Metroid fans.
I think if I dislike this game it will probably be because it looks like a huge departure from prime series; which I really enjoyed.
One thing I can't figure out: the presentation of this game. Does it suck or is it awesome? Samus' character model looks like something from fan mechanimation.
Really nice ad, until they get to the in-game stuff. :(
That's a great ad. The game looks great too.
I'd hit it.
I got a real Kratos vibe from those kills. I hope it's not a QTE fest.
How is that Ad great at all? I may just not be getting it but it seemed like a bunch of random shit with her talking and some pictures of old games that don't make sense to anyone except people who know this game is coming out.
Are you new to ads?
So you're looking more for something like this?
Metroid's kind of past the point where soccer moms are gonna jump in, and a lot of the people who know Metroid are kind of iffy on the game. I'm gonna say "show some stuff to the existing market that makes them go 'oh shit'" is probably the right move here.
That commercial is fucking amazing, very nice.
I'll have to think about picking this up after I finish Prime 1-3, which I've never done, even though this game looks like it has nothing at all to do with those. Still, very nice.
Melf - I'm going to say that there are QTEs involved here, looking at those movies.
You haven't finished any of the Prime games? WTF are you doing on TNL when you could be playing?! Get on that shit!
Prime 1 was great for the time
I couldn't finish 2, it was ass (makes me wonder if I wouldn't like 1 anymore either)
Didn't play 3
I beat the first game but never got all the upgrades and items or all the scans. Never played the rest.
They're on my shelf and my list! I will get to them soon.
I like Prime 3's controls a LOT, but I got stuck 3/4s of the way through the game and never finished it.
You are correct about the second game. The ammo system and the ludicrously convoluted level designs that render the map somewhat useless make it far, far worse than Metroid Prime 1. Metroid Prime 3 isn't as good as the first but it's still an excellent game (once you get past the utterly terrible Halo-esque introductory sequence).
