I'd never have thought to compare it to MH. I haven't come up with the right description but this is kinda like and old NES platformer mixed with a shitty american RPG with a million systems and numbers that affect all your dice rolls. Maybe NES platformer mixed with MMO.
The jump plus reload is exactly the terrible first 15 minutes. The way I see it is this internet famous guy does all this animation which is sacred, and they want you to be able to look at it all. It looks fat and chunky and plays exactly like it looks- also very similar to Scott Pilgrim.
I want to say something good about the game because I did play it a good number of hours, but everything I think of makes me want to complain about it. It's fun in kind of a MMO grindy way I guess.
Another retro indie game sucks?
Let me show you my surprised face:

Retro indie game done right - Tower of Guns. PC only, but this is how it should be done.

"Retro" and "Indie" aren't going to make a game good or bad
You had a stray "but" in there.
Tower of Guns is wildly different than what I expected when you said "retro indie," but it indeed is.
"Indie" may not, but I still contend that retro games are failing miserably at matching the actual classic games they are trying to imitate, no matter who is making them. People should be supporting the re-release of more of the actually great classic games instead of these lazy imposters in most cases.

Really? Once I saw that the game operated as a hub village, and your missions are all tiered in ranks, some of which are filled with "key" missions and "gathering" missions, replete with capture/kill quests, I knew exactly what they were aping. That and enemies drop crafting materials, with the rarer "key" materials coming from the large Steel Soldier hunts. Shit, they even have multiple spawning points for these kill quests, and they will often run away and go to another one, just like MH.
