I'm going on a trip to Fiji and New Zealand in August. I have never been outside of North America before so I'm pretty excited. Does anyone have any recommendations of interesting stuff to do in these places? I'm mostly going to be in or near Lautoka and Auckland.
My step sister lives in New Zealand. Go where there is green stuff. Good times.
NeoZeed is Canadian, cheap green stuff in high quality shouldn't be an issue.
My advice is track down Peter Jackson and tell him he was better in his Dead Alive/Meet the Feebles low-budget era. That should make for a fun day.

My friend Michelle goes to Australia and New Zealand all the time. I'll see if I can get some advice for you. She did a bunch of stuff in New Zealand and prefers it to Australia. Be prepared for a lot of nature, I'm told. Note that she is a woman and like all women who knows why the fuck they like things sometimes? So be prepared. Although you live in Vancouver, don't you? That's pretty fucking amazing scenery, too.

Well, most of the iconic New Zealand stuff like jet-boating, bungee jumping, skiing, main bits of LotR etc. is in the southern island around Queenstown.
Peter Jackson resides in Wellington, which is kind of the cultural centre of New Zealand (parliament, Flight of the Conchords, Te Papa. Southern tip on north island.
You can bungee jump off a bridge in Auckland, go to the Rotarua mud pits, ski, and see the glow worm caves in the northern part of the north island.
The beautiful unraped part of New Zealand is the southern part of the southern island. Most of the north island and Christchurch is agricultural/deforested.

Zorbs look awesome albeit probably too claustrophobia/motion sickness inducing for my tastes.
