It'll be moot as soon as the 360 has a multi-terabyte storage capability... maybe.
And then there's EA coming out recently saying that the 360 is tapped but that PS3 has a lot of power left to unlock...

It won't work, exactly because gaming isn't reliant on having One Single Platform in the way that operating systems or DVDs are. You might get one, but it'll go the way of XM Radio within a year, tops.
Galloping unicorns.
Yeah, VHS and Beta never got resolved. Neither did Blu Ray and HD-DVD.
There can and will be a similar gaming standard, because the third party developers that actually drive the industry will demand it.
All that needs to happen for this to fail, hard, is for a company to announce something Better Faster Bigger Shinier than your 'standard' inside of a year.
Then instead of one company biting it for taking a risk on it, the risk/failure spreads out to four or five companies backing the standard. I just don't see it happening.
Well shit, we'll just have to have some new games! Horrible!
This is a very silly thread, Yoshi.
Standard Compliant? In the way that a 32X can have Genesis games plugged into it? (Genesis = base unit, 32X = tacked on 'innovation', stay with me here).
Why even bother with a standard at that point? You've got five companies making 32X's. One of 'em is a holodeck, I hear.
:wtf:
You've never bought a DVD player? There are different models with different features at different prices.
One standard, for one type of software. DVD movies aren't exactly demanding in the way of shaders and rendering abilities, Yoshi. My copy of Batman doesn't have an "only plays on DVDx.9 hardware" sticker on it.
