Let's talk about: Banning dodgeball and tag

Yup, those wacky protectors are at it again, and this time it seems that "tag" is too emotionally damaging to our children. Not only do they have to suffer being singled out as "it", but they might bump their knee or some crap like that. So a school in California is banning it. Dodgeball was banned in a mess of places last year for being dammaging. Personally, I love dodgeball. Best. School game. EVAR!!! I can't immagine "shielding" children from it. So, what do you guys think about all this? Is the new way of thinking right? Is this just stuff being done to avoid silly lawsuits? Are the games harmless and this whole situation is very mis-guided? Have any of you been permanently scarred either emotionally or physically by any of these games?* Is it just fun? Is it dangerous? Do we shield kids from too much these days? Let's hear it.





*Note: If anyone here claims they have been permanently emotionally scarred by "tag", we all reserve the right to endlessly laugh at and ridicule you.

It's the politically correct, protective leftists. Can't my child and I make these kinds of decisions for ourselves?!

Physical Education should be basic exercise and nothing more. I think we should do away with all sports and games in school. You're there to learn fuckers, get over it.

Damn, an entire generation, deprived of the simple joys of dodge ball.
What a sad age we live in.

If anything, dodge ball teaches kids an important life lesson:

"It's every man for himself, you can't trust any one, and if you turn your back for a second, you may end up taking a shot to the face."

As for dodgeball being dangerous because you could get hit in the head....There are very serrious consequences for throwing a ball at someone's head: He'll catch it and you'll be out! Seriously, every kid knew that a throw anywhere above the thighs was just asking to be caught. :p

That's the sad mind-set of society that will ensure I never have kids. I refuse to subject them to such a twisted and perverse world that thinks like that.

I think banning tag is the most ridiculous thing in the world. The only kids that may be emotionally affected by such a game is the chubby kid who probably can't catch anyone if he or she is "it".

On the dodgeball thing: BAN IT! In my elementary school at least, bully-type kids would always take advantage of that game and toss the ball at poeople's heads.

What the hell is "four square"?

Ahhh, 4 square.... Is there no end to the joys that red rubber ball can bring? 4 square, dodgeball, kickball.... I played a ton of 4 square as a kid, right around the time Mike Tyson's Punchout was released. We each made up "Super hits" just like the Punchout characters had. You could do crap like catch the ball and throw it back once every 30 minutes or so as long as it involved a rediculous cartoony "super" motion and was designated as your "super hit" beforehand. :)

And as far as that 6-pack of whoop ass goes, the entire case should have already been spent when dodgeball went down. :(
