Let's talk about: Banning dodgeball and tag

You're not at school to express yourself or have fun, you're there to learn. If it makes you feel any better, art/music classes would have more freedom than they do now, and there would be no homework.

Not hardly. I'm doing my masters degree at this country's top university, so I figure I picked up a thing or two along the way.

But standing up in the face of your own physical limits, fear and pain, learning confidence through the improvement of training, the importance and self respect that goes along with belonging, those were all invaluable lessons that imprinted on everything else I did professionally and scholastically.

Our emotions are physcially based in so many ways...physical health and exercise are far more effective long-term mood enhancers than any drug, never mind the functional and longevital benefits that go along with it. Aside from that, various psychologists have written on the benefit the ability to function on a physical level and overcome physical pain has on one's "groundedness" and ability to deal with reality and other people.

I believe it's crucial to inculcate a positive physical ethic in children, even if only to develop coordination and good exercise habits, nevermind the psychological benefits.

:lol: Ja, mein Fuhrer! I'm sure your utopian worldview would create generations of well adjusted, relaxed, happy citizens. Life doesn't have to be a military exercise; there's a place for individuality and play. You can't hide the fact that there are differences between people, and that in a meritocracy those differences become what define you.

Better to learn those traits and how best to navigate them than pretend everyone's identical and can live by work alone.

To your 1st post S, plain vinilla exercise does all that for the most part.

As for the 2nd, kids can be individuals outside of school, in the capacity their parents allow. There is no place for 'play' at school, as shown by how SHIITTY schools are these days, and the fact so much play is incorperated into them these days.

Not all. When you have a 200 lb halfback rounding the corner at you full speed, you have to make a decision to either back down or take the hit. Sport creates situations in which you come face to face with your own limitations and insecurity, and gives you the opportunity to overcome them. Jumping jacks don't.

If you train kids to have an absolutist joyless attitude towards life, it's reflected in society. What's the point of living if it's reduced to drab utilitarianism ? And you just added 2 hours to the school day and got rid of summer. What 'outside of school' is there left?

School is the best place to explore this. Half of the point of school is socialization, rather than scholastic learning. It's where you learn to make friends, get along with other people, and develop as an individual. If you stick every kid in a cubicle without peer interaction, you'll end up with a culture of stunted introverts.

Fine. You can't legislate away the fact that not all people are created equal; if they don't discover it in school they'll learn it in the workplace. So now you have an immature workforce who have to come to grips with their own humanity well past the age when their personality has formed and they're less able to adapt to it; and now their livelihood and the well being of the country is at stake.

I think your system would lead to a world of messed up and psychologically unformed people without the facility to understand or empathize with other people in a direct manner.
