Dude, for real? I'm aware of my shortcomings, and I am seeking a degree better suited for me. If I tried to get a BS and go into the types of fields that really require it, more math would always be required of me, and it wouldn't be a good fit.

I'd like my classes more if they tried harder to connect the material to actual jobs. That is kind of the point of my major, you know, to design things? And yet I get taught a bunch of things, and I'm rarely given a reason for it. I'm often asked to find things and not told why. Sometimes I feel like a guy that wants to make tires and all I'm learning is how to draw circles.

I don't know if this is a feeling that is easy to relate if you are not deep into college sciences. Sometimes it really feels like performing science, and the people who teach in a college are from two completely different planets.

Nick, I am not trying to argue your point.

Community colleges, imo, are either for people that aren't sure what direction they want to go in educationally, need to improve their academic standing before transferring to a university, or are determined to get a specific job in a short period of time.

I have an AAS degree that I never actually gained employment in that specific career. The internship did lead me into my current career path, however, which is completely different from what I had originally intended.

That worked for me but there is no harm for someone that specifically wants to become a civil engineer in two years, doing so either.

vocational stuff probably should be pushed more. There is nothing wrong with the idea of more people gaining skills.

This is so true. Expecting that your career will line up perfectly with your natural interests/strengths isn't how things shake out (except for academics, of course).

I'm on a career path that has nothing to do w/my college major and requires massively more effort than if I were writing speeches or glad-handing pols or voters. I never would have chosen this path, and I have to work insanely hard at it...but that effort is paying off. There's a lot to be said for perseverance and hard work.

Also, I have a BFA in 2D Animation and Illustration from the Academy of Art University in SF. Not that it matters, as a good portfolio and a way to get it seen are what is needed.
