I may be reading this wrong, but my field is a little different. No amount of training is going to give you an ear for music. But there isn't anyone out there without training that has a feel for brain surgery. Or an eye for landing airplanes.

Some professions, and some people, require a degree. Some don't. I know what was right for me... but I'm certainly glad that some of you people are slaving for a degree. Someone has to staff the emergency rooms.

On "elite" schools coddling the students:

I know a lot of lawyers and w/law schools this is absolutely true. Get into a Tier 1 law school and you will spend an inordinate amount of time being told how awesome you are.

Go to a Tier 3-4 school and the administration will grind you down to get their bar passage rate up, so they can get into a higher Tier, so they can eventually coddle their students.

Major lulz at Biff's "college is just rote memorization" bs. Which non-online universities are like that? Examples plz.

I think most general studies classes are rather rote, but once you get into upper level stuff it's not really at all.
