I signed in literally 90 seconds after the servers went live and all five of my names had already been taken. At least I got some of my old WoW names again.
In related news, the game is still awesome.

I'm reaaaally interested in this game...especially with the lack of subscription fee...whats the deal on server swapping though? i've read you can swap servers freely, but i've also read you can only be a "guest" on other servers...anyone know?
p.s. hi RF
Oh shit Steadiest
For the first few weeks, you can swap servers at will. Once things have settled down, your account will be bound to a server and you can only change by paying.
BUT. The only thing a server choice really affects is the mass PvP mode since it pits 3 servers against each other. For everything else, you're able to temporarily join a friend's server using the guest system. You can do that as often as you like, although I think you might need to be in a group with someone from the other server before you get the option.
Meh, I'll pick this up soonish. Hopefully some form of one of my names will be around.
I leave for a week in vegas tomorrow. I'll see whats up when I get back.
i might get this soonish as well
I am considering this as well.
I caved and ordered it online, downloading now....anyone know anything about servers to play on? This is all I found...
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c...vers_based_on/
Unfortunately most of that doesn't mean shit to me...
Checked my best buy reward zone and saw that i had $65 built up. Purchased the digital deluxe version for $15.
No monthly fee means everything to me.
Once again, I am so impressed by this game. The scale, variety, and depth are all incredible. Today I spent most of my time in PVP (both world and structured) and it really is good enough to spend 1-80 there alone.
Even the performance is crazy good. I remember playing Warhammer PVP and getting about 1fps when 20 characters are on screen. Here - dozens of characters, particle effects everywhere, and no issues. But the Guild Wars engine has always been pretty neat.
Ill be on this on Tuesday. Its gonna be hard to choose what class to play!
I rolled on Maguuma, Norn Guardian....I'll probably switch servers once other get into it and things settle down...
I have the worst fucking luck with getting mmos to work.
I bought it late last night hoping to let it download over night. Problem was, i bought it from Best Buy online. I downloaded and installed the best buy pc app, and the app wouldnt start after installation. I couldnt even find it in my start menu, app data, program list, nothing.
Spent an hour googling this and that and nothing helped.
I finally found a thread where multiple people were having issies with the bb app and one guy said he tried downloading it onto another computer and it worked there so he was able to get his key and get the game from the guild wars website. So i tried that. It worked.
Downloading now. What a pain in the ass.
So I guess servers only really matter for WvWvW PvP.
Some of my guild was saying that you can group up for pretty much everything else with people on other servers. No idea how that works exactly yet.
I'm Timber Greenleaf on Yak's Bend.
The crafting in this game is so good.
I'm calling it now, this is the best game of the year. Sorry everything coming out in the next four months.
Crafting is confusing the hell out of me right now...guess i just need to spend more time with it...
This will help:

Basically, discoveries are the way to go. For most crafting professions, anyway.
Sylvari elementalist named Dekan Mai on Stormbluff Isles.
The lack of a trading post is a major drag.
And the battlegrounds are queued to hell. I finally have enough money to buy a blueprint....
I've had my eye on this for a while because it looks like MMOs minus shit things. It's downloading now! I guess I'll roll on Stormbluff unless there's another server everyone is using.
Steadiest and I rolled on Maguuma
I'm having a hard time deciding which character to play! I have half a mind to roll every class.
My son is having a lot more fun being a thief than i did with my elementalist.
Was gonna get it from GMG with the 20% off coupon and it's fucking out of stock. Eat all of the dicks.
I'm loving the Engineer. I get to run around planting bombs and land mines everywhere, or I can run around with a flame thrower, or I can be tiny captain america tossing my shield around while blasting fools with my handgun. Also about 40 other combinations that are really cool. And I haven't even hit 20 yet.
Awesomeness overload.
Although this game gives me some pretty vivid flashbacks of WoW, it's refreshing enough that I'm enjoying the shit out of it....crafting is way cool...PvP is gonna be badass...and the best part so far, I don't feel like i need to log in all the time to get my moneys worth....boom roasted
btw me and Artec will be bringing glory back to the name Rampant Fronting
What did you two roll?
20% off code for Gamefly

So many disconnects, crazy WvW queues, and still no trading post. And it's not even the official launch yet...
I might take tomorrow off.
Why? It's not gonna get any better when the rest of the world who doesn't understand how to download gets the game.
By "off", I meant "off from GW2."
I think ArenaNet needs a few days to sort this thing out. The game is wonderful, but unfortunately the rest of the world seems to have figured that out.
What do you mean when you say disconnects? Like build updates? Or you getting tossed off the game unexpected?
I got the build update but I also was disconnected 4-5 times tonight... in like an hour of play. The only time I wasn't disconnected was when I was in a SPVP game.
Ok guys, you can give up trying to be clever, I have the best name for an engineer.

That race looks like the horrible CG elves in Harry Potter
I thought asura were awful the first time I saw them. Now I love em. But I like hideous characters sometimes!
For those that didn't watch the video or like to read, here is a nice write up about crafting in this game and some general info about it:
http://gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwar...ost_35198.html
Also, steadiest started a guild on Maguuma, for those that want to hop in
You can join guilds across servers, by the way.
Nice, steadiest or I can invite whoever wants in. Need to get them guild upgrades rolling.
My engineer is a huntsman, I need to figure out my next profession. I'm thinking leather worker for secondary.
Are profession slots limited? It's been a while since I've played an MMO that doesn't let you level everything, so I'd forgotten about that sort of thing.
I'm installing now. Any place in particular anybody is using to read up on this game? Seems pretty complex from the youtube vids I've watches from the beta.
crafting disciplines are kind of limited; you are limited to 2 at any one time, but you can change disciplines for 40 silver at max level (its like 10 copper per discipline level, max 400). When you change disciplines, you dont lose progress/recipes in the disciplines you dropped, you just have to pay to change back. So technically, you can have all 8 disciplines leveled on one character.
For general crafting information, read that link i posted before. I think he had more helpful links with general information at the end too.
For information the best site I've found so far is guildwars2guru...their forum is pretty active
For professions you can only have 2 "active" at a time...but you never lose progress...for example I could spend a week levelling up my armor smithing then decide to drop it for something else....but when I go back and activate my armor smithing its still at the same level where I left off
Alright, that's cool.
How much does your profession affect active gameplay? Does it give you specific commands or armor proficiencies? In other words, is there something about the game that would require only two active professions to be balanced?
In all of the reading I have done so far, there aren't any proficiencies from your active disciplines; it's just that each discipline crafts gear that is tailored to certain professions. It's essentially their way of saying that if you want to do it all (on one character), its gonna cost a bit more.
I've been saying this over and over while playing.
WoW does a few things better: WoW's interconnected zones are lovely. You have to go through a loading screen when switching zones in GW2. I guess it results in better graphics overall but it would have been nice to have.
WoW's combat is a bit more responsive. This may have something to do with the dodge feature + PvP since dodging would be pointless if incoming attacks didn't have a readable windup. I'm still low level so I can't say for sure.
That's really the main thing WoW has over every other MMO - interface and combat responsiveness
Played a bit more today. Getting used to it. I would still prefer to use a controller. To attack, i click the left mouse button on an enemy. Is there a way to Automatically attack whatever is near you without actually having to click on it? It is a pain in the ass when doing events because 15 players will converge on one guy and i end up clicking on them instead of the enemy.
Depends on what type of abilities your profession has too; as an elementalist, i can just run in range and use an ability that is targeted on the ground and after it casts my character automatically attacks the target it hit. Do you have your first ability queued up for auto attack too? I also think you can just activate your first ability when you are in range of an enemy and it will autotarget it.
I'm thinking of getting a new mouse for this. Anyone use any of those dorky gaming mouses? I'm considering the Razer Naga Epic or the Logitech G700.
Timber has one IIRC.
You can bind a key to target the nearest hostile (not the same thing as tabbing) and I believe you can set it up so that you automatically autoattack targets in range.
Some people on GAF have had success with controller setups. It involves using some crazy 3rd person software but some people swear by it. Unfortunately, it makes precise AOE targeting difficult/impossible which is bad news for my elementalist. It would be nice if ArenaNet actually put in official controller support though.
I've been using a Razer Naga for almost a year now. Once you get past the oddity of not being able to use your thumb as a mouse anchor (well, I tend to, anyway) while using abilities it's pretty amazing. I barely even rebind a lot of games anymore since most stuff is defaulted to the number keys anyway.
There's a switch on the bottom to have it use either the number keys or the numpad, in case you want to have the keys above WASD bound to some stuff and the mouse to other things. It gets a little awkward on the bottom row or two so it's really only 2-3 rows of easily accessible buttons (depending on your hand), but I recommend it.
You're an MMO fiend. How does it play with non-MMO's?
I was leaning towards the Logitech but then I realized that I owned a G5 and never liked it much.
Besides the side pad portion it functions like a normal 3-button mouse. Like I said, the pad is for number keys or the numpad so it really depends on if the game you're playing can benefit from all those extra keys. It doesn't do much for most FPS' since weapon amounts are pretty limited these days and a lot of mice have an extra button or two if you want to have healkits or melee mapped to it and RPGs like Dragon Age have actionbars but are also (at least functionally) turn-based so big whoop at hotkeys. I tend to use a controller for most action games anyway. Even for stuff like Planetside I would only have things that don't require aiming since you are pushing on the side of what you're using to aim with, so it's not great for precision things.
MMOs are what it's made for and that's where it excels, for everything else it's just kind of a neat bonus but not really needed.
It's still in the running as long as those buttons are not actually detrimental to the playing of a non-MMO.
I'm using a G300. I like the extra buttons not being crammed onto one area on the mouse, plus its a good gaming mouse for leftys.

I need a wireless mouse.
We have like 5 people in the guild on Maguuma now; you can join guilds cross server, but influence points are server specific so you are only in the guild to chat if you aren't on the same server. Also, server transfers are free for a short time (idk how much longer), so if you want in and rolled cross server, you can just move over.
^ Are the five people TNL'ers? I'd move if that is where y'all are going.
I am not OMG IN LOVE with this game, but when I am not playing it I am thinking about playing it.
It's been a long time since I've felt that way. Feels good.
I'd like to get back in RF but it's nice being on GAF's server for the WvW numbers. Is there any chance that you guys can switch over to Stormbluff?
Join us, Daved! I hear that you get an exclusive courier when you buy GW2.
Ed is a number whore, story at 11.
When has RF ever been about strength in numbers.
I'll move wherever TBH
Yea. It's a huge map where servers duke it out to capture territory. IT IS GLORIOUS.
I have RL friends on Stormbluff now for good probably. You guys should join up there, it's a good place.
Everyone on one server before my copy arrives please.
I'm ok going Stormbluff. Should we do this, RF guys?
I'll move as long as we are in RF. RF4life
Yeah, the TNL kids sans Timber will join up AFAIK.
Rad. My name is: diffchan.4517.
ssjn.9820
FUCK IT WE'LL DO IT ON STORMBLUFF
edit: Holy hell that was easy. Roster all stayed the same, only thing is we lost some of our guild points...whatevs

I like when you're impudent, Daved.
Some French jerk already hit 80.
Unbelievable.
So I got an email stating that someone today requested a password reset of my Guild Wars account, and I still don't even have a copy of this game yet. Adorable.
ArenaNet needs to build an authenticator app sooner rather than later.
The hackers just migrated their battlenet phishing list to arena and boom successful logins all over the place.
I have no idea what my ArenaNet login is, pretty sure it's different from all my other passwords. They have GW2 password resets disabled right now so I can't change it anyway to see if someone actually did get into my account or not.
Is anyone online to do a guild invite? I want to start earnin influence
Are you sure that's your account name? Either there's a typo or the invite system is buggy. We might be able to work with a character name if the account name has problems.
NO IM NOT. It's diffchan.4571. I'm such a noob.
If you are looking for more people to have in the guild, donmega.2610. I know I'll be playing a lot for a month, then I'll have to juggle this and MoP.
So I have this and am installing it, but since password resets and live chat are disabled and they seem to have no phone number, who knows when I'll actually get to play. I like how they've disabled every customer support avenue except email, so now I can only pray that they're faster and smarter than the customer support people that NCSoft hires.
Fitzcarald.6439
I believe I registered on their site forever ago to sign up for possible beta access. So there's nothing there except for my email, but I can't do anything to reset or access it. I looked up some customer support info and it looks like it's at least as bad as NCSoft's right now, as they're taking 5+ days to respond to tickets and using the typical stall tactics of asking for information that's provided in the ticket.
I have an email that I normally reserve for work purposes, since I don't give a shit about GW1 linking I might just make my account through that.
