I'd also argue that 'Why are we here?' and 'What is our purpose?' are pointless questions. Isn't life meaning enough? If you found out tomorrow that there was no point or reason, would it degrade your life? There doesn't always have to purpose or meaning with everything. We just desire there to be.

As for why a lot of people have all sorts of different interpretations of the Christian God, well its because they've had the same doubts many of you've had. They've looked at it and know the God of 100 years ago is not real. However, unlike you, they have not decided to chunk the whole system. They choose to do so either to keep a connection to their past, family, friends, or previous world view.

For many, it is very hard to disregard a huge force in the lives of those before them. So they simply redefine those things that they know are not real, and keep those things that do.

This is how religions survive in an age of science.

that is your answer to those questions. And your answers are most likely subjective.

Thinking these questions AND wanting answers for them are part of the human condition. Wanting purpose and understanding are very primal and basic feelings/thoughts.

Even dogs want a purpose and to belong.

This is called a God of the Gaps. People will continually push God into an increasingly small realm of the unknown until He has (as is the case with most people now) entirely exited our universe, existing only in a completely undefined other realm.

At one point gods lived on the mountaintop. Then we went there, and God moved to the sky. Then we went to the sky and God moved to another dimension. Eventually we may learn about other dimensions too.
