Picked up Brutal Legend yesterday and spent a few hours with it. REALLY enjoying this game, it's a lot of fun so far, but I find myself not exploring very much so that I can keep doing story missions, which I feel is wrong since it's such a big world with lots of shit to see.

Silent Hill 2 may be scarier than Dead Space and it doesn't drag on as long but I don't think it's the better game overall. I like how Dead Space forces you to choose wisely about your upgrades because it won't let you have them all. It's kind of like System Shock 2 in that regard (and in general atmosphere). Speaking of which, Shock 2 is better than both of them.

Just seems false.

Lately, I'm playing Borderlands with some friends, learning Tekken 6, and trying to make progress in Sengoku Ace.
Tekken is weird. The controls are weird. Why is there a universal low parry but a totally different non-universal high/mid one? Why do the ukemi controls have to be so different from the lying on the ground controls? And you are so damn vulnerable while rolling forward/backwards to stand up. I'm liking the game, but these are just things that take adjusting.
I don't have a lot to say about Borderlands. I'm not too knowledgeable on the whole lootin' shit genre, but I put it above Diablo and probably above PSO. It gives me that same weird feeling that those other two give me, where I'm enjoying myself enough to keep playing it, but at the same time feel the whole thing is kinda empty. Less so than those other games, though, so good deal!
Sengoku Ace has taken a lot of adjustment. Psikyo's games are so different, even compared to the adjustment between Raizing and Cave. The bullet speed is mostly why, but there are other factors. The ship's got four frames of lag. Weird. I think I've almost got stage 5 down safely. I hear stage 6 is a hurdle, and then stage 7 is a relative cakewalk. Fuck if I know.

Introduced a friend to Galactic Attack/Layer Section, Under Defeat and Mars Matrix today. We hung out to play fighting games but ended up playing shmups all day.
We also played some Virtual On (Saturn) but that was just a bit of a massacre. I think the final score was something like 5 me, 0 him. Matches were set to 5 rounds so he took a serious beating. God bless him - he just kept on playing, though...
Playing Torchlight since my tv replacement won't be in until sometime next week.
Oh, I know it is kinda weird since its a videogame, but I think it'd be alot better if horror games wouldn't fall into the same traps as everyday horror movies. Not every movie is like that though.Quote:

It took 'em long enough but this series finally has the level of environmental manipulation the original was hyped to have but never did. It may be generic looking, and I'm sure it will get surpassed by similar stuff in the near future, but for now the emergent building destruction situations are ahead of most games, and a lot of fun.

Still a great time. I always liked the longer jumping in this port more than the arcade original.
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (360)
Feels like a Call of Duty game set in US Civil War era. It seems like a well made game but there's way too much competition with even better FPS nowadays so I doubt I'll bother with it.
Lost: Via Domus (PC)
I recently finished watching season 4 of Lost, and borrowed the game out of curiosity. Not surprisingly, it doesn't compare to the show since the acting and writing aren't in the same league but it's actually not a horrible game so far as they at least tried to weave a side-story and put some puzzles in there. I'm glad I didn't spend money on it, though.

I played Mass Effect for 7 hours today. The last time I killed an entire day playing a game like that was probably 10 years ago. I'm not even sure it's even all that good, but I just can't fucking stop.

it's been years since I've played SC5p2. It was hard to put down the controller.
I'd forgotten about how the characters you rescue will be the musicians in the final song (or something). ...I never did get a 100% clear, and look forward to doing so.
I hope UGA really blew things out at the end with the sound of the full assortment of characters.
..was thinking about digging out the Trancevibrator for SC52, but it ain't utilized like Rez after all, so doesn't add to much to the experience.
Chaos Field is just damn chill to play.
I'd love to see a sequel with traditional stages and maybe the use of branching paths (or Fantasy Zone II style black holes) to switch between Chaos and Order fields.

I almost wish I had finished up Brutal Legend before beginning to replay Psychonauts, as now Brutal Legend's flaws are that much more magnified. Psychonauts is still an excellent game and holds up really well, and I doubt the same will be true for Brutal Legend.
Also, Dragon Age: Origins is sucking up my time, though I may uninstall it and finish up some of the other RPGs I already have in my backlog such as Drakensang and Risen before playing it any more.

And just picked up Mass Effect (360) for $20. One benefit to not having time for videogames means you can be choosy and pick stuff up years late for a fraction of the price (and what it's actually worth).
Xexex decided it didn't want me playing it anymore towards the end of Stage 6. The Flint keeps getting stuck in little crevices and isn't cooperating. I don't think this game has a reputation for being incredibly hard or anything, but I'm having a tough time with it. Good stuff, though.
Rented Rabbids Go Home for Wii. Reminds me alot of De Blob; fantastic presentation and a solid concept that unfortunately seems spread too thin.

I've been playing the original Tenchu. I played a bunch, got about 70% through the game, and completely forgot to save my progress. Since, you know, you have to quit out to the main menu and dig into the options menu to save. Shelved for now. Sucks, too, since I was having a pretty good time with it.

Started Lost Odyssey last night. Seems alright for the hour or so I put into it. Took me over two months to put enough time into Mass Effect to beat it. Maybe I'll have this done by June.
I'm switching between four different games of Demon's Souls, each with a completely different character....after beating the game twice already. It's getting to the point where I've memorized item and enemy locations and level layouts, but that doesn't make the game any less fun.
Combat is still interesting, because each character I'm using has a totally different set of equipment and techniques. Sure, bosses can be exploited and defeated easily, but the game's so much better when you try different strategies yourself.
The atmosphere of the Tower of Latria is one of the thickest and strangest I've encountered in a game. That level's octopus guards are among my favorite game enemies; they're so weird and their bell is so ominous.
Demon's Souls is working its way onto my all-time top ten list. I'm close to the 100 hour mark and I'm not close to trying out all the builds I want. There are games with better tech, story, and gameplay, but the feel of this game is so compelling to me....it's the kind of game experience I'd make if I had the talent. I'll be playing this for a long, long time.
Dragon Age Origins and lovin it. Really awesome, and once I got the gist of pausing combat for the party management, it got even better. Since I dont have all that much time to play, prolly will be playing this till next year lol
MGS Acid2 - ok so far, but I liked original bit better. The cell shaded graphics are meh
Whaaaat? The second one was much better, at least mechanically. The story in 1 can not be topped, however!
In any case, they're both awesome. They kind of gave me a new outlook on the entire MGS series. Ac!d trains your eyes to see the levels differently and use the secondary weapons more creatively.
I can't stand MGS Acid 1/2. I just hate building decks of cards. I really want to get into the MGS acid 1 story too.

Skate 2 and Dragon Age Origins
Skate 2 is awesome, and DAO is kinda slow in the beginning.
All that lame ass shit you spend hours and hours playing and you just now get around to Skate 2.

Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles- Looks really good for Wii, and as a gun game....it's OK. The thing is it's a great trip but not terribly taxing, and the cinematics are wasted on the standard gawd-awful RE story. Better than Umbrella by a long shot though.

Outrun 2 SP (XBLA):
I got this since it looked like the racing parts of Burnout Revenge, and this is pretty much exactly what I wanted from a control standpoint. Single player is almost like a version of San Francisco Rush designed with Pac-Man CE philosophy. Instead of the console racing game approach -- a few dozen tracks and mirror images of them -- you have a single (but branching) track; a 4-5 minute long conflation of every good part of every good track of every good arcade racer. The game wants to know what you can do with it.
Multiplayer is pretty brilliant. Letting the first person to each checkpoint decide which path the race is going to take is such a well-designed, frictional, SEGA-y wrinkle.
As much as I love the unapologetic stripping of excess that the one track-five paths approach offers, what other full-fledged console games play like this aside from the racing parts of Burnout Revenge? Are any of the earlier Burnouts all racing?
Basically, I want to OutRun 2-drift forever. San Francisco Rush: Pac-Man CE Version is cool, but I want San Francisco Rush: Tetris Version. I want the game to be a never-ending rope of drifting and dodging, looping and not ending until I fail to hit a checkpoint in time, almost like Wipeout Pure/Pulse/HD's Zone mode. I think the closest thing to this is that 15-minute mode in OutRun 2 SP and, well, Zone Mode in Wipeout, but is there a game that controls like OutRun 2 that has a ton of tracks and unlockables and such? Do the console ports of Outrun 2/C2C add anything else that makes them worth buying?

Gotta chime in for Lost Odyssey - on the last disc for the longest time but easily my fav JRPG of this generation.
Well...2nd place maybe.
Because Mario & Luigi - Bowser's Inside Story is Japanese. And an RPG. But somehow bucks every story troupe of the genre while putting in some rather awesome real-time, turn-based battles. I never thought playing as Bowser would be so fun either, and the writing is easily on par with the original so far. My only semi-gripe is I'm 5 hours in and the world map looks like it's mostly been explored. Hope I'm wrong - this game is genius.
Nah, the world map is pretty small, but Bowser and M&L have access to different parts of it, which layers it a little.
Put Lost Odyssey on hold for Shadow Complex. I recall reading opinions that the game was good except for the boss battles. I'd agree with this sentiment!

It's just called OutRun Online Arcade in the store menus, btw. The 2 threw me off.
I love Outrun 2 but I would suggest skipping the XBLA port for the multiplayer because of no traffic snafu. Basically, if you are ahead and any good, no one can catch up. Also, the single player campaign stuff was removed for the port.Quote:

I'm playing a bunch of stuff right now. Assassin's Creed 1 for instance, which I like but I definitely have some issues with the game. I'm glad I waited to get it new for 20 instead of spending 60 on it right off the bat. The two biggest things are the controls, and the distinct V shape of the LOD. It stands out like a sore thumb to me specially in the cities.
Also need to get around to finishing Shadow Complex, which is another one I like alot just wish the controls were tighter. It does a decent job of copying the Super Metroid style of play, but the controls just weren't up to the same level IMHO.
There's also Muramasa and New Super Mario Bros Wii which I'm really digging them too.
I vastly prefer the original OutRun 2's campaign and handling to SP's. That said, only pick it up if you still have an original Xbox lying around. There are constant frame drops if you play it on 360.Quote:
