That said, I don't get this "80% derivative" crap. All the levels felt really new compared to older Mario games. Mario DS can't hold a light to this, even if they share the same music and art style. Saying it's 80% derivative sets the standard thus - Modern Warfare 2 is 99% derivative! I mean, you shoot shit along a predetermined flight path with guns! And the bad guys are the generi-terrorist-Russian-commies! Derivative.
Granted both are a lot of fun! I don't care how derivative they are - my enjoyment derives not from originality - I just get sick of these nonsensical value judgments tossed around. As if because you cannot enjoy something enjoyable, you must justify your curmudgeonly attitude by yelping "derivative!" and calling it a day.
Why? They're working on the less popular Galaxy. If NSMB becomes the torch bearer for the franchise over the 3D Marios, wouldn't that free EAD up?Quote:

The game was fantastic. My only real gripe was not being able to use the classic controller and having to waggle for the hat copter. Besides that everything about it was great. I'll take 10 NSMB Wii games before I take another Super Mario Galaxy.
