your first message board/forum experience

the first forum i posted on was the one on the enix web site back when they'd just came back to north america under the name "hibabango". i thought it was cool to run into so many other people that loved dragon quest/warrior just as much as i did. after a while though, i kinda got sick of the atitudes there.....allot of people there were kinda......snooty. after the dragon warrior 7 anouncement i kinda stoped goin' there. i posted at gamefaqs for a bit, but.....i dunno, i just wasn't feelin' the crowd there. after all that i found the game-go site and then of course there was the move to tnl. i really love this place.

Even though I had been using the internet for years before it came out, my first ever message board and chat room experience was on the Sonic Adventure website. Since it was only viewable via the Dreamcast, I bought a keyboard just so I could keep up in the chat room and type out long replys in the forum.

The message boards where pretty much useless, because people barely talked about actual gameplay, but spent a lot of time discussing whether the plants in Big the Cat's house where pot leaves or not. And the chat room was more of the same, we manly talked about current gaming news, old NES games and finding new ways to abuse the /me command.

But, I'll be damned if it wasn't fun as hell.


It really wasn't until the World Rankings that people finally started to take things seriously. We would hang out in the chat room discussing ways to shave off a few seconds from our Emerald Coast times or complain about cheaters.

Man, those where the days.



From there I moved on to GameFaqs, then to GameGO! and finally TNL v1.0

Well, GameGo was the first message board I posted at. I would check in on the site for updates and such, and at the time I didn't know what a message board was. It was the sheer lack of things to do on the site that lead me to click on message board. So I learned how message boards worked on GameGo, then after a few days it went under.

My brief message board history:
The first message board I used was Wu-Tech Corp.'s old tier-style board.
After that, they had another forum. Then they changed names to Orochinagi, got a new board, and I became a moderator there for a while. During this time, I also posted at GameFAQs, and StileProject. Quit posting at StileProject, and started posting at The Asylum (basically a forum for SPF 'vets'). Posted a bit on the old Fighters.net forum, and the old Shoryuken.com forum. MMCafe got a board around this time, and I was one of the first to register. Quit posting at The Asylum, and pretty much quit posting at Orochinagi. Found out about GameGO! via the GameFAQs Dreamcast System board; began posting there. After GG! died, came to TNL.
TNL, and GameFAQs are pretty much the only boards I regularly post in anymore.

My first videogame chat experience was back in '96, I think. It was the DreamFusion Palace chat server. Met a bunch of cool people there, and it's still around (though with a different name, owner, address, etc) today.

Edit - Oh, just remembered. During the time of the DreamFusion Palace, there was also an IGN Palace. The Palace software could be found on any of the PC Gamer discs from around that time, and is how many people found out about it...
Anyway, Bill Donohue (UGP, PSM), Colin Williamson (PCG, IGN) used to hang around those places a lot. Producers and such would show up from time to time for a scheduled guest chat as well. Can't remember any offhand, though.

GameGo.

The first time I ever posted at a message board was GameFaqs. It's actually pretty funny because I only posted there once in order to ask a quick Sega Rally 2 question. I don't think I could bear to post there any more than that, though.

And then I started posting here. And that's it. I'm not big on posting at message boards. I'm more of a creepy lurker-type. :evil:

although i was on the internet since 94', i didn't get on any message boards til 99.

Emux.com was really funny cause it was nothing but a bunch of idiots flaming each other. not one post didn't have flaming in it. some of the debates in that board were sooo insane that i still remember them perfectly today.

the board went down right before PS2 launch.

When Marvel relaunched The Avengers last time, I got so into that comic it wasn't even funny. I spent hours in the university library posting on Alvaro's Avengers board, since I didn't have web access at home. it was pretty cool, since the creators behind the book posted there all the time. That was the first board I was on.

When I finally got web access at home, I spent plenty of time in GF Tavern with the late night crew. I accessed it through the site, so when that went down I was cut adrift. I posted on Segaweb for a while after getting my DC, where I found out about GameGo!. Once I did, I never posted there again (feel kinda bad, since one of the mods told me about it). The rest is history.
