i heard that the new EGM has a rumor saying that the next Sonic game will be 2D. if anyone has this issue, can you confirm the rumor.
so atleast then i'll know it's one of 2 things.
1. New Sonic GBA Game.
or
2. Something to get really excited about.

Well what I read in the latest issuse of Electronic Gaming Monthly (the one with three differant Nintendo cover variants, Mario, Link, Samus) is that the nest Sonic will not be in the Adventure series. But a 3D Sonic more in the vein of the older sonics. Like level after level, no crappy hubs and usless crap characters. Sega wants to return the speed and platforming of the old days I guess. This was all in the Quarterman section, he also states to expect the first showing at the Tokyo Game Show.
ok, so far it's something to get really excited about.
let's just hope EGM isn't wrong about this....:(
We've already got some excellent Sonic games in 2D, hopefully EGM is correct.
It would be nice... but after Sonic Adventure 2, it would take something really impressive to make me like Sonic as much as I did back in the Genesis days. Oh well, at least I still have my golden Sonic coin! :D
2D Sonic might be cool (although portable games, with a few exceptions, don't quite cut it IMO). However, for me, this opens up a huge discussion, since I generally feel that further 2D efforts of classic franchises are generally a waste. We'll see.
But what I really wanted to comment on was Clashmaster's sig. RIGHTEOUS GUNVALKYRIE LOVE!!
3 ways to make this THE game to talk about:
3D levels ala Sonic Adventure, but drop all the side characters, ditch the adventuring and major storytelling, and keep it fast.
3D on rails, with all the goodness from Sonic games of the Genny era. Again, fast is good.
2D - but GO TO TOWN WITH IT! I've seen hand drawn stuff in terms of graphics, animation, and the like that would spin heads, and I'm only guessing that such greatness is a possibility in games on such powerful consoles. I'm talking hi-res everything, animating everything, scrolling layers up the wazoo, and fluid animation. I would only want a new 2D Sonic if Sega were to do it right, and put the time and development into it that all major developers would put into a major game that was in 3D.

Hero, if you think there's any chance of that happening, you need help.
Indeed, but I really don't see much of a difference between these. It's hard to have a fast Sonic without it being on rails and as I was playing Sonic Adventure again recently, I felt how similar the stages were to the Genesis games, just in 3D.Quote:

Clean that up and it would be the best Sonic game ever made. That's what I hope for. Believe it or not, I think it's one 2D-born series that has more potential in 3D than continued 2D (the view is way too restrictive for the level of speed that I and most people want, since you can see far(ther) into the distance and anticipate).
That's exactly how I feel about the Sonic Adventures. Don't get me wrong, I love Sonic Adventure, but you can only play the Sonic levels so much until you realize is all you are doing is pressing up and jumping every once in a while, which would be fine if you where playing a 2D game. If they made the levels open ended and fully explorable, instead of the current set paths, it would be the best Sonic game ever made.Quote:
