Anyone hear anything new, seems an almost complete lack of anything concrete about this one, but as a sequel to the best GBA RPG ever, this shoudn't disappoint.
I remember seeing a diagram of this showing A GBA cart and a DS cart going ionto a DS, Hopefully that means there will be a way to port save data over.
Good, I was worried we'd never see another one. Let's hope they don't fuck it up and add needless drawing shit or microphone shit or whatever.
I hope you can port over your save data. I did that with the first two, and it would be really cool to keep using my characters.
I don't imagine you can use the same characters, supposedly, in what little info is out there for this game, it stars one of Alex's descendants some 10+ years after the second game concluded. I'm wagering on 14 years given to look of the guy in the demo. Also, this game is slated for the first of Jan, so the lack of anything on this game save for rumors is disconcerting. I'd imagined this would be met with more fanfare than it has gotten.
Golden sun is strange. It has some of the best RPG music around, everything about it is ridiculously polished... but I still can't remember a single thing about the story. It's all a blur of RPG cliches. Utterly forgettable characters and situations.

oh, it's because I drew the similarity to this being lame whereas it's excused by other devs/publishers and this one happens to be Nintendo. So it's in there. Really and truly. Although it's dumb one way or another to bemoan delays on a game, as long as it makes the game better for it.
Honestly though! I would have never pegged that Golden Sun would get another sequel, so waiting on a pleasant surprise is still a pleasant surprise.
It had a release date, it was slated for the begining of the year, and has been pushed back until June, I believe.
Hero: I agree with everything you've said so far, even if this game is crap, and that's hughly unlikely, I'm happy just knowing that they're willing to keep trying at it. My only fear is that it's nothing more than a clone of the first two, mechanics and all. I want to see a real evolution here.

i only played a little of the first one but the experience didn't really stick with me. i think i meant to play part 2 at some point but then i completely forgot about the series.
Enjoyed the first two, but I don't own a DS and never will. So pass. Nintendo has made it clear they don't cater to my demographic (gamer) anymore.

It's terribly laughable that designing a game so its not only fun in one player but multiplayer as well is considered "rearranging a few blocks." That's the thing, NSMB multiplayer isn't fun. In fact the game is less fun when more people play. Unless, of course, you wanna get drunk and goof around with some friends, but a) I don't play games that way and b) if I did, I wouldn't choose NSMB. And the first three Mario games are a good example of what I'm talking about. While all inherently the same concept, each are just as different. It's not about being original as you speak of it. It's about delivering something that isn't the same as the last thing whatever company has released. NSMB doesn't offer anything that I haven't seen done better in games made 20 years ago, or for that fact, different from the DS game (yes I played it). My opinion on Golden Sun is that Nintendo has made it a point to develop for the casual gamer and until I see something that proves otherwise, I'm not buying it. It looks exactly like the other Golden Sun games. I'm not saying reinvent the genre with every release, but ffs, don't just tack a 2 on the end or whatever and expect people to buy it (see Galaxy 2). I could give countless examples where game franchises have basically stalled until they changed things up. Anywho, back on the SMB tip - SMB1 and 3 are pretty damn similar. It has the same level progressions, the same "hit bricks to break em, ? ones to get stuff," the same scheme that powerups alter the way Mario behaves...just more of it. More powerups, more levels, more "themes" to the worlds, more enemies...but the nuts-and-bolts groundwork is pretty much the same thing.
With LBP, I don't think there's an added value that some solutions require multiplayer. Again, it's designing a game so that "this is what you do for single" and "this is what you do in multi." Sure some games do it well, others make completely different experiences out of them. Though it's still compartmentalizing the two. There's some credit due for a game that is designed so its all an enjoyable experience, multi or no
(and after watching some of those "Super Skill" vids, I'm very much sure that coordinated, high skill multi is not only possible in NSMBWii, but is just another element that could or could not be pursued by players. It's just up to them and their imaginations).
For the sake of discussion, I'll agree, but consider what would happen if all we got were more SMB3 games. SMW was a good shift that kept the core intact, but made it feel new and interesting. Same with SM64. I can tolerate sequels that improve on a concept, but there comes a point where the series either needs to end or come up with something new. GTA, Metroid, Mario...most franchises that have been around for an extended period have seen it at least once. But the last Golden Sun was like 6 years ago? I don't get it. Golden Sun is JRPG and people are talking about innovation? I mean, I like an RPG every other year or so, but I'm not fooling myself into thinking the gameplay is going to be some kind of revelation. Barring the occasional oddball like Knights in the Knightmare it's a stagnant genre, which isn't the same thing as saying it's not fun.

More rampant guessing/rumor building: The reactivating of the four lighthouses may have saved Wayward, but awakened a whole bunch of mean and nasty things, some wanting nothing more than to use the power of alchemy to control the world, as was the reason for sealing it away in the first place. I'm also willing to say that whatever [whoever, which I'll now refer to as The Dark One] the reason for locking away alchemy the begin with, is very long lived and due for a comeback. The Wise One knew all of this from the start and plans on leading the children of the original heroes to their ultimate destiny. Finally, there can't be a being as powerful as The Wise One without an Antithesis character, so The Dark One, will likely resurrect The Anti-Wise One, leading to a battle with the gods of Weyward. That's all just theory though.

Golden Sun had an odd vibe to it though...I dunno how to describe it. Like, the perfect alternative to the go-to games on GBA but not quite first-tier. Lots of fun but could easily been overlooked if Nintendo hadn't published it.
