This is the first game I've seen this entire console cycle that I actually want to play bad enough to spend real U.S. currency on. As in, "Why, this game strikes my interest enough that I will take cash out of my paycheck in exchange for this game and the system to play it on".
To each their own, but I'll take this over Modern Warfare 2 all day.

touched on this in the ps3 thread but yeah, this pretty much jumped to #1 on my reasons to get a ps3 list offsetting the common "I need a blu-ray player / something that streams media properly / I want to play the exclusive/first-party titles" and less common "my friends all have ps3s" entries
hopefully fromsoftware/atlus get around to making a patch so that every other screen isn't a loading screen, as can be seen here
This is pretty high on my Want list too. Hell of a weird follow-up off of Demon's Souls, though. From Software gets better every year.

Didn't realize this was getting a US release. Kind of odd that they didn't change "dot" to "pixel" for the US title, since dot doesn't really translate that well.
Yeah, the title kind of stumbles over itself. Are these Heroes of 3D Dot Games we're talking about? Does 3D Dot describe the Game Heroes? Is this simply a 3D version of Dot Game Heroes? These are the questions that are going to frustrate consumers into buying FUEL or DIRT or GUN instead.
Sony really needs to allow users to copy over the full game to the HDD. I know BRD discs are huge, but at least make it an option since they now have 120GB standard HDD's anyways.Quote:

Just picked this up and started playing it, so far it's really really fun and funny as well, it def doesn't take itself seriously at all.
It really is old style zelda but with 3d graphics. Really brilliant, everyone with a PS3 should get this game, along with Demon Souls.

I'm playing through the JP version right now as well. About 5 hours in, and it's great. Froze a couple times on me though, which was pretty annoying. :/

That's good to hear. I like that it is more like Zelda LTTP than the 3D Zelda games. I can't remember the last time a game like it was released for a console. The original Alundra on PSX?
It's actually far more like Legend of Zelda than Link to the Past. The overworld is more intricate, but the dungeons are pure, classic original Zelda. At least the ones I've played so far, at any rate.

This game is $34.99 with free shipping on Newegg right now. I already ordered it from elsewhere, hopefully it gets here soon.
I received the game and played through the end of the first dungeon. All of the 8 bit references (as well as the kid trying to trade me Demon's Souls) made me lulz, but the gigantic sword and spin slice is making things gamebreakingly easy. Do different characters play differently, or is everyone the same?
Also, kudos to the designers for having a large text option for those of us with <50" tvs.
everybody is essentially the same, but don't worry about the game being bullshit easy with the giant fuckoff sword, it'll become kinda challenging soon enough (it never gets downright "hard" until you unlock the extra difficulties)

Two things I don't like.
The focal point. The area around the character looks fine outdoors until about 5' away. Then it looks like they smeared Vaseline all over the screen.
Getting hit by off screen enemies because the camera is zoomed in too much.
Other than that, good times.

The purpose of the White Sticky Stuff is to make you want to go back and play Demons Souls again.

I agree. It almost as if sometimes the d-pad doesn't want to work.
This game is fun as fuck. A fair bit easier than I was expecting, but a) that's what the other modes/difficulties are there for and b) I grew up playing games like this (or this game, in some spots). I could see giving this game to a 14-year-old kid who has played lots of Madden and Halo but has never played the older Zelda games getting really frustrated with the game, really quick. I am still hoping that there's a bonus dungeon or something where the developers go "you know the dungeons in a game like Wizardry? That shit was TOO EASY." and make players wish they were never born.
Thankfully, my nitpicks with the game (field of depth issues, the camera being TOO DAMN CLOSE, enemies/parts of levels being off-screen) can be fixed by adjusting the options. The only thing I don't like is how the side quests are managed as if they were out of a Tales game (with random NPCs giving random assignments that come and go seemingly randomly, with no real way to track it) but we didn't have any niceties like that in 1985, either.
The references are all over the place; I just don't like how some of them are really forced. I get that it's the entire point of the game, but I don't think one guy in town needs to speak like Dr. Light for one random scene

The "Select File" music is totally Shiren. Kinda weird how it's an unabashed 95% Zelda rip-off/homage... and then another 5% of just a bunch of other random games.
IOT: this game bores me to tears! I got through the first couple dungeons but now I'm looking for #3 and the overworld is so dreadfully dull, I'm not sure I can go on. Maybe I'm just not in the mood? It's technically solid and I love me some Zelda-ness. I'll try again later.

There are a TON of missable trophies, and unless you use a FAQ the whole way through, you'll never do all the timed side quests on your own.
Don't bother. I gave up around the same spot. It's a dull and uninspired game that is technically solid, but it just goes to show there's more to fun than being "technically solid". Before, I thought they were being generous with the $40 price, but now it seems about right. It's a cute little game that pushes those nostalgic buttons in many of us, but I think, perhaps... it just isn't much more.
For me, (having Zelda 1 in my top 10 of all time), this game is pure awesomeness. It's what I've been waiting for for 20 years.
Pretty much it IS Zelda 1 in concept with a little bit of Link to the Past thrown in. The enemy types and movements are mirrored, the weapons and items are mirrored, the style is mirrored, the dungeons are mirrored, the environments are mirrored, etc.. Even the way the character moves between screens and the viewpoint is EXACTLY like Zelda 1.
Actually more of an enhanced, 3d remix of Zelda 1, kinda like doing the 2nd quest, so my mindset while playing is this is the 3rd quest.
The added enhancements like save points, upgraded swords, dialogue, character creation and mini games (especially Tower of Defense) are pretty damn cool.
Anyways, I went a little nuts and grinded Zombies for 5 hours using the Lucky Mallet, with the end result of a fully powered up Giga Sword and a trophy. Holy shit, is this thing unbalanced, takes up the entire screen and kill everything on it in in 1 hit, lol
Almost done with my first playthrough (1/2 way the Dark Tower), and probably will start up From mode after this.

they made the dash circuit races easier (and like two weeks ago I *finally* got the damn second dash circuit under 60 seconds) among fixing other problems and adding in new custom characters
