if the prison she would be sent to tortures a person daily, making cutting seem like tickling... yeah, I agree. Also, what if hell exists? think of all the great uninterrupted suffering she would receive there!!!

Whatever happened to doing hard labor in prison? -fear of creating too many "Conans", perhaps...albeit with sledgehammer expertise rather than sword?
I assume the problem is you can't motivate someone to do grueling labor without some sort of inhumane motivation
Nah, now they're fighting over telemarketing jobs where they get access to credit card numbers and home addresses. They gotta have a plan for when the get released I guess.
The problem with the death penalty is the risk of wrongful execution and ensuing legal action. If the person did do the crime, it's over too quick. Give them time to regret what they have done FFS.
What about caning? If she's guilty, let her take some lashes from a heavy soaked rattan Singapore style. KCHAK! KCHAK! I don't think that's cruel considering the crime is murder. Those doing life for murder should get a few lashes a week to remind them they're not in Disneyland. Caning is IMO appropriate for murderers, robbers, other violent criminals, etc. The USA should consider it.
Ok, say we make her take a dirt nap. Sure, the parents of the 9 yr old may be satisfied but it won't all of a sudden bring the dead back. This ain't Full Metal Alchemist. It's tragic indeed but killing this other kid in retribution does pretty much no one any good over simply segregating her from society.
I thought you could sacrifice yourself to bring some one back. But in order to keep Ed alive he sacrificed his arm and leg to bring Al's soul back to the armor and that was all he could do short of killing himself to bring Al back?
If that's not the case then I am teh animeoron.
Man, you missed the entire premise for that show.
