Going for a Plane Ride

Since I'm traveling a bit more these days and it's almost Christmas... and I'm delusional from Tylenol PM, I'm curious what people bring with them on planes. I'm sure everyone brings clothes (I hope), but what else do you pack in the way of electronics/entertainment? I'm working on giving TSA nightmares...

• Work laptop (not used in-flight)
• Mini keyboard (not used in-flight)
• Microsoft ARC mouse (not used in-flight)
• Garmin GPS (not used in-flight)
• iPhone
• Cheap little plastic base from Target that holds iPhone sideways
• Noise-canceling headphones
• Shitty work phone
• And a ton of cables/chargers

I mostly just watch movies, but I do have a couple ok iPhone games. I had one guy next to me pull out a laptop and start working in Photoshop with a Wacom in-flight. I was impressed. :lol:

P.S. Taking laptops out of bags is such a load of shit.

My laptop always comes with me, but it doesn't get used on the plane.

As for in-flight entertainment, I usually bring a DS/PSP/both, along with Bose earbuds. And in the event that my travels outlast the devices, I bring a good book for back-up.

This is so true.

I like to bring the the paper, preferably the New York Times, a few books, and perhaps some snacks. I find it difficult to concentrate on planes, so I prefer the reading material to be light. Most of my flights are pretty short (two hours?), but my ~6 flight to Peru had TV sets in every headrest.

So I guess my answer is no electronics. If I traveled a lot, I would get a Kindle in a heartbeat.

It'd be interesting to hear experiences with that. On one hand, the Kindle looks amazing, on the other hand, I can't don't like to read.

After the 2009 NYC meetup, I will ALWAYS bring a change of clothes with me on the damn plane. Fuck you, Delta. Charging me $15 to check a goddamn bag, only to LOSE IT after a TWO HOUR DELAY IN MINNESOTA, and then NOT give me a refund?! FUCK.

Before this, I only took the things that I didn't want the bag handlers to destroy/steal. That consisted of my camera equipment and PSP. Food is a must because fuck paying for airline food; a man can only subsist on free cookies/peanuts for so long. For entertainment, I bring a book and maybe a magazine (along with the PSP). I don't usually sleep on planes because I enjoy the view too much. Most of my time up in the air consist of listening to music and staring down at the ground. Is that weird?

I don't really have any personal experience with the Kindle, but for travel purposes, it would be great. In between the wait at the airport, the plane ride, and downtime at the destination, reading material is easily consumed. Books are bulky, and I never bring enough. The selection at airports usually offers little more than the Dan Browns and Clive Cusslers of the world. I imagine that the Kindle is amazing for newspapers, simply because a three foot wide airspace isn't needed to fold pages. Once a newspaper is read, it's like carrying around a banana peel.

Food: Trail Mix. Get a big bag of the good stuff with M&Ms before getting to the airport. It fills you up but won't leave you feeling like garbage like eating fast food will. Granola is good too, but the fiber content may cause rancid gas.

Box cutter, half gallon of gasoline, a copy of "Hijacking For Dummies", and a teddy bear. Oh, the looks I get.
