Take a bat.
And wear a jersey so they don't ask questions.
Sorry that I left you and your preference out.
Usually when I'm traveling it's only for a couple of days so I don't bother checking anything in, and throw a backpack full of clothes in the overhead. Other than that, I'll bring a book and an iPod (which has been replaced by my blackberry). I spend all of my time on flights reading, from when I sit down to when the plane lands. On the rare occasion I'm on a long flight that has in demand movies (this has only happened from the US-UK) I will watch a movie or two as well.
Depends on how long the flight is but I've always got a book, my DS, PSP or GBA Micro (depending on what I feel like playing), my laptop (not used in flight), camera (also not used in flight), and whatever clothes I need tucked into a bag along with some kind of snack (again depending on the length of the flight). I won't check a bag of clothes unless I'm staying somewhere longer than 4 or 5 days. I fucking hate waiting around for my bag to show up.
