I don't want to be that asshole, but yeah, I know what you are getting at. I've recently had a bunch of people from high school freind me. It is really hard to not be a self righteous ass when I see that they have 3 kids and a shitty boring job.

I get a sick sort of satisfaction from doing exactly this.

As little as you've achieved in life, it makes you feel good that you did not just give up.

That even though you may never live up to your passions, you are better off for having them, and attempting to fulfill them.

My sister-in-law is the worst with annoying status updates, all are a paragraph long about how fanastic everything is.

Also noticed that a TON of people I went to high school with are married or have kids now (strangely none of the ones with kids are married though).
